Sure does seem simple enough.

I agree 100% with that article in the long term, in the short term we need to be using less fuel.

It's not that we need to use less fuel. It's that the speculators need to stop driving the prices up.

My dad has been working for Marathon Oil Co. at a refinery in Detroit (25+ years) and he says they are running at over capacity, and assumes most other refineries are the same way throughout the country. They just can't pump it out fast enough for the demand They are working right now on like a billion+ $ expansion to the refinery.

How about an oil company owned by us. Everyone who wants to participate donates money to start the oil drilling, refining facilities, and gas stations. You buy a membership for $xx and get to buy this "local" fuel and pay less at the pump. If everyone in the U.S. donated an avg. of $1 there would be plenty of $ to start a decent sized drilling operation. Kind out out there, but just an idea for an oil company to start that's not owned by one rich a-hole who wants to make $5 billion/year.

Why is the guy running a company an asshole for wanting to make money?

If you are operating a company and aren't maintaining 10% profit margin in the long term then your not doing a very good job.

Why the fck does everyone have to focus on how much money the company made instead of focusing on what the margins are?

Let me ask you this, if you got a killer deal on a Jeep for $1000. Then you seen the opportunity to sell it for $2000 would you?

so, if we started drilling for oil here, fuel would get cheap right? pff...more likely, there will be some rich people who get richer and fuel prices would stay the same.

I think I would have to disagree. A lot to do with this is the mentality of those trading in the market. If the market was not so dependant on bull headed dictators over seas then I think the buy mentality would be changed to a sell mentality because the turmulent market that has been consistently on the rise because of the turmoil would not have that fuel for the fire, thus causing a sell off and the investors investing elsewhere.

Yeah, but not if I was already a billionare. Then I would be a greedy a-hole, and especially if I bought 200,000,000 jeeps and was making a huge profit on each one and it happened to be the only vehicle sold in the us so people were forced to buy them and the overpriced jeeps were killing the entire economy of the country. Don't compare apples and oranges.

Why? So because someone has money they should not be sensible enough to continue making profits?

That my friend is why you will never be a billionaire unless you hit the lotto.

So you think the price of gas and oil is killing the economy? Would not have anything to do with the mentality of Americans in regards to jobs, housing, personal possessions, work ethics, etc etc?
