Ahhh the south. The land of low I.Q., lowered expectations and mutant incest babies.
Congrats man, I moved down to the mountains of Arkansas last year and loved it till I found out they're still fighting the civil war and really DO NOT like us northern folk or understand our culture. I moved back I didn't belong . Good luck.

100 isn't that bad unless you are working outside.

Winter means 40 rain and ice. Any forecast of snow cripples everything and then it doesn't happen.

40 Deg? That would be hard to take. Compare that to our 20 and rain here. Last year was the first time we had a real amount of snow in a while. 40 you are not going to have that much ice.

We liked the area, but I hated summer and winter with a burning passion. I LOVED this winter up here after not seeing more than 3" of snow for 5 years straight. Great place to live if you can stand the miserable summer and winter
You can have the snow. Since I try to ride the motorcycle year round, snow is not something I look forward to.

Pretty much, it is like anything else, some like different states for different reasons. NC you are closer to real wheeling, milder winters, no Grandholm, better roads. I liked Winston-Salem as I was an hour from the Blue Ridge Parkway, could get to the ocean for a weekend, and drove less time then I do here to and from work, and lived in the country.

Good luck down there, hope things work out well.

They'll be friendly until they find out your a Damn Yankee...:tonka:

Ask about it, a Yankee is a northerner who comes to visit... A Damn Yankee is one that comes down and stays...

Good luck in the south... Have you noticed how slow things are there, nothing seems to happen very fast...

Where did you find work there? What's paying the bills? I just turned down a job interview there for basically the same thing I am doing here.

The Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area is a great place to live. I moved to Michigan in 2002 after living in Pittsboro (just outside Chapel Hill) for 12 years. I worked in the Research Triangle Park and spent most of my spare time on my boat in Jordan Lake. The summers are really hot down there with awful humidity. My wife loved it, but I didn't care too much for the walking outside and not being able to take a deep breath because it felt like your lungs were going to explode from the heat.

Stuff like that is huge, I live closer to work here and live in the country now.

You don't think 100 and humid matters unless you work outside until you break into a total sweat when you step out at 7AM to walk the dogs, go to the car, walk into the car from work, walk to grab lunch, or go outside for more than 5 seconds ANYWHERE.

For those that haven't experienced it, have you ever walked into an indoor pool and been hit in the face with this disgusting wet heat. It's like that, all summer but there's no pool to jump into for relief (unless you're at the pool of course).

Until you've had 34-40 rain for weeks on end and the black ice in the mornings, you would think MI has more miserable winters. Everyone here says that same thing to me when I try to explain it. But I'll take 10 and snow ANY DAY over 40 rain
