I was making over $100k a year, I had great returns on my stocks, good paying jobs were easy to find, gas was under $2.00 a gallon, interest rates were good but homes were hard to find because everyone was buying them, we had a balanced federal budget, we weren't borrowing from China or the Fed to pay for a war (in fact, there WAS no war), our pres was getting a hummer in the oval office (go man, go), and I was getting one on the beach. Life was good.

In fact, about that time people in Michigan were doing really well too, which had a lot to do with my decision to move here.

I was actually paying a little less in taxes then than I am now, partly because my pres didn't promise NOT to tax me yet didn't really do anything to raise it either, and also because the burden was being shared with big corporations.

In 2000 the U.S. economy expanded at annualized rates of 4.8%, 5.6% and 2.7% respectively for the first three quarters of 2000.

Thanks to the fiscal discipline in the early 1990s we had a huge surplus. In 1996, the federal government ran a deficit of $107 billion whereas the surplus in 2000 was $237 billion. The surplus was used to buy back privately held government debt.

Shall I go in to detail, or is that good enough?

But WAIT! There's MORE!

The final numbers for 2007 came in at a whopping $4 TRILLION deficit.

We're borrowing from the Fed and China to pay for an illegal occupation to control oil.

We have thousands of young men and women dying in the Middle East. Thousands of others come home severely maimed, but our VA system can't take care of them because there's not enough money and our criminal president doesn't give a fukc .

Factories are shutting down and moving to China because Bush won't tax them when they import the shit back so you can go to WalMart and buy it cheaper (and you know you do).

Gas has been hovering around $4 a gallon.

Groceries are getting too expensive for some people to eat because they can barely afford to drive to work.

The oil companies and the Arabs of whom the Bush crime family has proven intimate ties are rolling in the dough while the rest of us are providing it to them.

Shall I go on Mr. Toes?
