Can someone tell me why when a car of an older male, who knows how to work on car's from "the good ole' days", starts running like crap, it's almost always either the EGR valve or the convertor in their eyes?

No, someone else I know. But this statement I think holds true for alot of people

And I'm talking about on new cars without points....(yes, I've heard numerous people bitch about how points are many many times better than todays ignition systems too)
