Fortunately, those who flagrantly disregard seatbelt laws are also the ones who flagrantly disregard stop signs, red lights, and turn signal laws.

What I don't understand is if we're going to enforce wearing your seatbelt, why can't vehicle manufacturers get rid of frontal airbags, since they are supplemental (to protect you simpletons too FUCKING stupid to wear a seatbelt).

I'm going to have to disagree with you Mike on the best use of the money. Living near a school, I see people every day speeding thru the school zone. To me, it is a waste of the money PERIOD if it is used on the seatbelt zones. Try enforcing speed laws, red lights, etc.

The only reason that the insurance companies give money to seatbelt, helmet enforcement, and auto theft is to protect their bottom dollar. If there was no money in it for them, they would ignore it.

Prime example is that the insurance companies spend big $ on support of helmet law enforcement, but zero on motorcycle safety. If they really cared, they would support the classes.

Oh well, off the soapbox. While I wear my seatbelt always, still feel the law and the enforcement of the law at these checkpoints is a waste of money.

Not true. Ive never had a moving violation, but had quite a few seatbelt tickets.

I dont think the government should tell you to wear it or not. The Insurance company's should not cover your ass if you get hurt in an accident for younot wearing the damn belt.

Just like in Europe were if your going over 70 mph you Fed you crash

Not wearing a seat belt (or a helmet) is natures way of thinning the herd.

All I got to say is Wow! I work in the safety systems business and see what happens when people don't wear seatbelts. Let me tell you that wearing your seatbelts "greatly" reduces your chances of injury. This comes from years of studying/analyizing crash testing injury results. just my $.02

Is this another situation of the Insurance companies paying the localities and state for the seat belt enforcement?

I thought we discussed this last year, and this money was not money coming out of the pockets of the localities but actually into the pockets.

I agree, no seat belt + accident = No coverage. I think that is the insurance companies right and the only proper way to have people wear seat belts.

Remember when the law was first passed and they said they would not pull over and issue tickets for not wearing a seat belt unless you got pulled over for something else? Its all about the money and the state needs more.

I can bring the '46 down. :tonka: I only run the seatbelts in that off road. On the street if I were to get hit all I want is the pipe in my chest that was used for a steering column when a seatbelt holds me in the seat (no place for shoulder belts).
