Default Stealerships at their finest

I was on my way to the gym from work and saw a lifted XJ sittin on the rocks at the dealer I got my truck from....figured I'd pull in and take a look. It's at Szott Chrysler/Jeep on M-59 in White Lake.
Black 01 XJ, 78k miles, 5-6" lift, 35" BFG ATs, Mickey Thompson Classic IIs, 8.25 rear, ProtoFab front winch bumper, sh1tty side exhaust, etc. Nice lookin XJ, but nothing special. Bottom was bedlined and seemed like it was done to hide the rust that was bubbling through.

I pull up by it, get out, and start lookin at it. Within 15 seconds the sharks catch my scent and here comes the used car salesman. He comes up and the conversation goes something like this:
Him: Hey how you doin today? I'm Doug.
Me: Hi, I'm Sean. I've already got one bigger than this, I just saw it driving by and thought I'd check it out.
Him: Oh....ok.
Me: Nice lookin Jeep. (though it really wasn't all that great)
Him: Yep, it's a nice one. Only 78,000 miles.
Me: Not bad. Just outta curiosity, how much you askin for it?
Him: $11,900
Me: (as I try not to laugh) Alllllright.

Typical BS small talk, I make it very clear that I've got one better and know what I'm talkin about, more small talk, then he realizes he's not gonna get away with BSin me much.

Him: So is the lift for this thing really $4,000?
Me: Ha! Umm....lemme look.

I look, just a shortarm lift, coils, leafs, shocks, 2" t-case drop. Poorly repainted everything.

Me: It's worth $1000 tops.
Him: Oh. Interesting.
Me: Yep, it's just a standard issue Cherokee lift.
Him: I'm new here, so I don't really know much about it.
Me: It happens.
Him: So are you at all interested in this?
Me: Nope, just figured I'd stop and look as I was driving by. I've already got one and I need to save up for a trailer to get it back up to school. Good luck with the sale though.
Him: Thanks. Think we'll have any luck selling it at this price?
Me: Honestly, no not really. The price is high for the Jeep itself, and you probably won't get anything out of the mods on it. You'll probably actually lose money cuz of that. Not as much demand for something like this.
Him: Really?
Me: Yeah. Maybe you'll get lucky and find someone who wants a lifted daily driver just to stand out. Most people who want a wheelin rig want something cheaper, and older, plus they'd rather build it themselves.
Him: Oh yeah?
Me: Yep. Maybe you'll get lucky and some high school kid who wants a big Jeep and has mommy and daddy paying for it will come by and talk them into it. That'll probably be your best bet.
Him: Think so?
Me: Yeah, there's a pretty small customer base for stuff like this. Well good luck. Have a good one.

Or if you don't wanna read all that.....he believed an EBay issue 6" lift was worth $4000. Good ole dealerships.

Try to trade in something that has a lift in it . Dealer dont even want them .

I was at a dealer just looking , sales guy says we cant give you book for that Grand with it modified , dont even know if they will take it for a trade .

I just told him you should not assume , its not for trade or sale and you have bumped your head on your price so have a nice day .:gman:

I never met a salesmen that even knew much about the new car line. Pretty shitty since they sit around all day and have nothing to do but read up on the shit they sell. Many of them are just plain clueless.

Yep...I was at a Chevy dealer once...I don't know why, but one of the salesman was telling me about the Cobalt SS. I told him the Dodge SRT-4 would kick its ass. He had no clue what the SRT-4 was. You'd think the salesman should know some of the other vehicles the vehicles that he's selling compete with.

If you think that's bad you should walk into a gun store some day!!!!!!

(Except during black powder season, then the customers become so stupid that they actually make gun shop lackies look smart.)

Depends on dealer and vehicle. I see lifted Chevy trucks/tahoes/suburbans for sale at dealerships all the time, that where traded in. They aren't that old either a few years....so I doubt someone took a lose on the trade in.

oh i just remembered something related to this thats funny to me. Last time i was inside Szotts used vehicle section, i looked over and saw the old main manager from Al Dittrich GMC, selling used cars. The guy was a dick and treated my like a slave when i worked there, good to see where hes at now, haha.

What was his name? Just wondering if it's the guy who "sold" me my truck. I used the "" cuz he didn't do anything good....pretty much tried to screw me over, but through some good bitching and threats of lost business from my whole extended family, I ended up getting the truck and they lost a couple grand on it.
