I plan on running a 4'' lift hopefully should net me around 4.5 if not more, but i know the older xjs you get to go fairly decent before SYE and i will run either 31s or 32s maybe 33s if the price is right, but i am going with more of a bastard type spring and see how that goes

Yea, if you descide to run 31's check out treadwright.com. They make a retread tire that looks exactly like a BFG AT, thats what I am running right now and they are way cheaper. They have performed just as well so far, mine were retreaded on a BFG MT sidewall but I just had the black walls mounted out so you cant tell what they say unless you look at them up close.

Forgot to post the finished pics of the rear.

This is the general idea of how I'm going to do the fender flares. Reinforce the sheet metal with 1/8" and weld tube to the reinforced metal. Same will be done for rear. Probally come up with a bracket to go inside the front fenders for extra support.

Really like this idea and looks like it works well because I've seen a few different guys do them this way.

I have actually thought of that, I'm going to see how my first set turns out after I get a welder and I'll go from there. Just keep an eye on my build thread and see if you like the way they turn out.

Got the fronts all cut out but I think I deleted the pictures by accident. I'll post them up when I get some more, just picture no metal inside the white line.

I'll be getting the metal for the flares within the next week or so, I've already made a template for the front fenders.

Ok, flash forward half a year and I'm finally going to start working on the tube flares. I'm not going to do what I originally planned tho by making a plate to go over the fender, I'm just going weld the flare directly to the fender and make some supports behind it.

They will kind of look like this but not nearly as bubbly and round and won't stick out as far.

They will be a little more squared off and follow the body line. I already have the tube cut and bent up and got some 16 gage sheet metal, just have to start welding and cutting. The work will commence early tomorrow, since I'm unemployed I will just spend all day working on them and get as much done as I can. Hopefully I will have them done by the weekend, I'll post up some pics of the progress tomorrow night.

Ok, driver's side is almost done just have to do some more welding and then grinding and it'll be good. I'll start on the passenger's side tomorrow and hopefully wrap that up tomorrow night. It might look a little rough right now but I have a lot of cleaning up to do. Besides it's my first time doing body work or any significant welding other than some exhaust shit and little stuff. I should be able to run 33's no problem with my existing lift, I'll borrow some later next week to test fit (thanks Pete!!). In the mean time let me know what you think and I'll post more pics of the other side in the next day or two. Keep in mind that I have little welding experience so they're gonna look a little shitty.

Stripped....

Tube and first plate....

And so on....

And so on....

I like 'em!

One more thing, what do you guys think I should do for paint? Rhino-line the entire fenders maybe? I don't really want to throw any bondo on it and I'm not too good with auto paint so give me some ideas. Thanks.

Finished them up today, will finish painting after the weekend and still need to trim the extra bit of fender out of the inside. Have some ideas for the rears but it might take a while to work up the motivation to do them. 33's should tuck up in there very nicely tho.

sweet- tooooobes are cool

are you going to trim up the inside of the fender openings up to the tubes? That would look really clean. Edit-- whoops, you said you were going to-- I should read more! Good work

I'm going to unbolt both of the fenders and do the coating off of the Jeep, I think it will be a little easier and I hate taping shit off for liner. I'll do all my final trimming before I do the coat tho.

Got the outside of the fenders coated, just need to let it dry and then do the inside of the fenders. I think they look pretty good with the Herculiner on them but we'll see how they look after they're actually bolted up.
