I don't really plan to turbo the car, its a commuter/DD so the more reliable the better, but that could change down the road.

I didnt plan on a turbo either, but now i want one. The comp is a little over 10:1. Not ideal for a turbo but do-able.

I drove one 70 miles each way to work for 4 years. I blast to drive! After 130-140k miles plan to spend some $$$$$. Tires are an issue too, I only got about 30k on a set. Bent a couple rims too.

Duel Stage Intake actuator went bad, fuel pump, water pump, thermostat housing cracked, brakes, AC didn't work anymore and more that I can't remember. All happened between 130-155k miles.

My fiance's front spring just broke in her focus.

Brian (brimy311) went to hunt down some springs to help, and some of the springs he found (that suppliers had) were broken.

Mike (nyxis) said a girl he knew had a spring break and puncture a tire while she was driving.

The SVT has different suspension parts (I'm assuming), but it's still worth checking into...

I still gotta' say...more money goes into keeping that on the road, than goes into my jeep...and Bekah drives like a grandma.

the svt's are indeed a nice step up from the standard.

I have a stockish zx3 with suspension add ons and creature comfort additions. Its nice.

I recently sold a supercharged (powerworks) zx3 that was beautiful, fast and if I could keep my foot out of it, returned around 31mpg combined!

with the tuning and other things I did to it, it put a solid 235hp to the wheels. That was more than enough for me!

So you were the guy that bought it.:tonka: The Powerworks owners club is a pretty exclusive club.:tonka::tonka::tonka:

that bought it? I bought it from a guy in cali a couple of years ago. Sold it in December to someone in Trenton and he totaled it a couple months later. My mechanic bought it back from the insurance company for $1100 and we are building it for waterford hills.

It is a pretty exclusive club, I guess? Only because they are out of business now!

Ford Springs suck in general.. Taurus, escort, focus. contour, they all seem to break.

I am intimately familiar :tonka: with the fact that they (the Powerworks division of Cosworth/Mahle Powertrain) are out of business.:tonka::tonka:

I'll hit 123k miles on my POS this week.

I personally wouldn't look at an SVT for the daily grind. Fancy go-fast parts tend to not to fare so well in a commuter.

If you go the Focus route, here's a couple suggestions:
-16" stock wheels bend EASY with 205/50R16 tires. 205/55/R16s have a slightly taller sidewall and give a much nicer ride. I three extra OEM 16" wheels for when I bend another one. I'm too cheap to buy a stronger set of aftermarket wheels.

-expect to change tires every 25-30k miles. The little hatchback shitboxes are a hoot to throw through a corner.

-mostly complete OEM SVT suspension (shocks, struts, springs, rear swaybar) will set you back $300-400 (Jegs, Summit, or Ford Dealer). It's a DIY job which will take a day to install. You'll need to cut out your swaybar links and buy new ones. IIRC, $22/pr at the dealership.

-beware of automatic carwashes. The mirrors are fixed and fragile.

-timing maintenance on Ztec engines is 120k miles. Dealer cost was $300-400 for R&R including part.
