Well I just test drove one on my lunch brake, I was completely un impressed with power, which is fine. I was impressed with the handling, the guy let me drive it solo

I bet it is still faster then my truck is and I venture a guess of it cornering better...and getting better fuel mileage, etc.

I may buy it, it was slightly beat up (typical young kid bullshit) scratched, latch on the seat missing, etc. But it was in decent shape overall.

Your lunch brake??? :tonka:

It's a shift when going from something with low end torque and grunt to something that needs some RPMs to get up and move.

you may be wanting to buy american made....but IMO every focus and even the SVT focus seemed pretty far from what I call a quality vehicle. I would rather drive a 4 cyl. Fusion.

The facts on this car would shoot your opinion down.

They are one of the best vehicles Ford sells.

barry you know I value you're opinion, but I have seen and read very little in the way of people being unhappy with the focus. Bones, cornfed, and some others have had good things to say about them.

It's no race car, but it certainly drove very nice and solid. It's more then I wanted to spend, but so be it.

For shits and giggles I went and looked at some civics and jettas and I just can not bring myself to pay the same for one of those as this focus and get a car with 100,000 miles MORE on it.

And this is not a slam on the VW's at all. But I can count at least 4 or 5 that I saw on the side of 96 with the hazards on since I started working in southfield 8 months ago. I don't remember one focus on the side of the road.

I'd venture to say there are a lot more focus's on the road, so one would think I would have seen more of them broke down.

Domestic I would prefer to stay, so you have the neon or focus. The other foreign cars in this class and price range are the jetta or civic, and with the foreign car the maintenance/parts availability concerns me. I guess I could be wrong, but I'd just prefer at this point to stay domestic, my only foreign car was a nightmare.

Regular Focus = good
SVT Focus = somewhat fragile

My brother-in-law (Ford employee) had one. He drove it like the Sally that he is and still went through several wheels/tires and suspension pieces. It did not take much of a pothole (not that we have any of those around here) to bend the wheel and suspension pieces. He couldn't wait to get rid of it. If you do get a Focus (SVT or not) you should ask FrankNBrew if he can get you a deal on a Powerworks turbo kit. :tonka:

My old neighbor also lost two SVT wheels (bent, not broken), they seem fragile.

SVT foci haven't seem to like boost, from what I've seen.

You heard correctly but who needs a super fast commuter.

I has the S2 package right before the SVT came out and it had some of the SVT suspension goodies and WOWzer it handeled like no other.

My parents sold it with 135k on it and never had one mechanical breakdown, this was a 2001.

Why don't they like boost? With the right tune, It should be fine. I will most likely end up getting a turbo. I bought it initially so i wouldnt have to mod it, so we'll see.

I average 25-26 mpg doing mostly freeway.

Also, the transmissions are hella expensive to rebuild if you can find parts. If not, replace the whole thing.

you should check out focusfanatics.com for some good reading before you buy. There are some local dudes on that board with svt's.

high compression, and just seem to have a high failure rate.

I really wouldn't think adding forced induction to a car intended to be an economical daily driver is really an issue.

My focus with the non SVT zetec motor got 30mpg with the auto.
