oil pressure

well i got my truck all put together. Took it for a ride sat night all back roads cuz its not plated and such everything went fine. no problems. Earlier today i decided on a little longer drive that included some highway when i got back to my parking lot i stopped in drive and the oil light came on. took it out of gear and pressure went right up to normal. i then held it at about 2500rpm in park for a few seconds and the gage started to move around iratically then i shut it off because it isnt making any noises yet. ok and hear is some stuff from putting it in it had some really nasly oil in it when i got the engine valve train noises went away just with the oil change. the temp gage is not working and it did smell a little warm. im back at school and cant play with it again for a week but im hoping bad sender. my other thoughts are it got to hot and the oil got thin or the oil is not draning back to pan fast enough to get picked back up (clogged drain back holes from the nasty oil) any other thoughts that i can check out next weekend?

ok i think that makes more sence now

check your oil pressure with a manual gage. ive switched senders in my truck and its something in the dash to where when i come up on a idle it will kick the light and drop the gage.

Obvious but you'd be surprised how many people make this mistake...

Be sure you have enough oil in the engine...

You may be right about the clogged system from the nasty oil

Run up to murrays and buy an oil pan gasket and some oil system flush. Run the flush through your engine (the 5 minute stuff by Eagle) and drain your oil. Then drop the oil pan and clean out all the sludge and debris that's now resting on the bottom of your oil pan.

You'll be surprised by what will come out.Total cost is something like 12 bucks

Annoyances

Ok craig. Seriously. Dude. Stop nitpicking all the little details of everything you own. Not to be an asshole, and not that I really care, but you are always so hellbent on oil pressure, its annoying. You swapped in an engine that is bone stock with over 100k miles. Its not going to be A-1. It runs good, and HAS oil pressure. Stop worrying about such little details "like it seems a little low". Irrelevant-not brand new stuff. Seriously.

Yeah, don't pay any attention to the oil light that is programmed to let you know when there isn't enough oil pressure to operate the motor.

:miff: self...ok good call, still, its not a award winner. Its still got 100k, and the motor came out of a truck used ONLY for plowing U.P. snow. And the owner is notorious for um...not treating engines and trannys as intended. One instance...parking lot...10mph...dropped into park w/o use of brakes Oh..lol...i forgot...state street here in BR..2wd low racing ppl..."engine has rev limter for reason" cough cough smoke clouds

not smoke couds and the large amount of aduse is all the more reson not worry about hmm the little red light is on thats not a good thing dumb ass o ya and jon your a douche and on a side note put in a mechanical gage and its good enough for me 15ish in gear hot idle and 50 running down the road.

I would bet that the min spec for hot in gear is much lower than 15. You would be surprised at what the specs read for min oil pressure at ldle...I have seen some specs as low as 5 at idle is OK.
