Pressure Treated Lumber. It will be lighter and last for a good amount of time.

But I did find this for you on craigslist.

Buy the one on Craigslist. I doubt you're going to be able to build a nice one for much less.

He didn't list a phone number. List price is $600. The response email is sale-674669909@craigslist.org.

Well here is mine, simple and does what I want. Shit sits on it, lol.

Angle welded into a big rectangle the width and length of the frame behind the cab. 6 vertical tube mounts welded to the frame and angle. Then planks of Tamarack wood bolted down using longer then needed bolts for tie down points aiding in use of ratchet straps.

Around here.......Fentonish.......the DOT will hammer you. Anywhere in Oakland county....they are almost ALL DOT trained. If you dont wanna be harrased, dont change you bed.

$500 plates (Look into Log/Farm plates)
Annual Inspection
DOT Numbers (as of '09)
Chauffers Liscence
Medical Card
First Aid Kit, Triangles, Fire Ext
Extra gallon of Washer fluid
Extra Fuses (one for every spot, not just one of each)
Every light better work.....and be to DOT specs.

But I wanna see some offroad beds myself......

There's no way I can move that bed around to check the welds till I'm off disability It's just too heavy.

I don't think any of that matters if its not actually registered as a commercial vehicle.

i wa planning on building somthing a little bigger and more heavy duty than that. i will be using the truck for hauling scrap and hauling a quad or 2 around also. i wouldnt feel safe with a design like that. it would work for me if it was a trail rig. looks cool tho

The whole problem is that you are improperly registered if its not registered as a flat bed.

I've never heard of a registration called a "flatbed". Its either commercial (being used commercially) or its not, right? I didn't have to register my box truck as a commercial vehicle because it was for personal use only. Nobody ever bothered me because I didn't own a business.
