There have been TWO posts in this thread alone stating they've gotten over that number....and I've known a few people who've gotten over that number as well....

Once again, it seems you're talking out your ass when it comes to hmmmm , what else?? cars

I rescued a '96 GrandPrix from the junkyard. Dad hit a deer with it and was planning on sending it to the yard for $300. I thought it worth repairing, new fender and headlights and a radio. I'm driving it everyday now and it feels soooo much nicer to pay only $30/week instead of $80/week. At about 80mph I got 26.8mpg going to Silver Lake last weekend. I'm very sure dropping it down to 70 would bump it damn near to 30mpg. My father said he regularly got about 29-30 on his commute with it. It has the 3.1 V-6 and 251,000 miles!

I just sell parts, work more hours, or get a better job.

Or all three.

I had a 2001 Ford Focus Wagon SE (wagon not hatch) and it was lucky to get 28mpgs pretty much straight highway. I had one city tank that only got 22mpg. I also had to replace the motor at 75K which is ridiculous. I bought it for about $6900 with 60K on it.

Now, I'm driving a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I average about 30 mpg's doing 80 all the time. I drive 100 miles one way to work. If I drive it nice, then I can get about 33-34. it's got 145K on the ticker and haven't had to do any repairs other than routine maintenance. I bought this one for $4000 with 70K on it.

I didn't change my fuel filter 'til ~118k. Are you using "sticky" summer performance tires (too lazy to look up tire compound info)? My mileage suffered when I had on "sticky" BFGs.

For maintenance, I replace the air filter every 3rd oil change/15k miles, keep tire pressure at 34-36 psi, change the oil every 5k with Motorcraft 5W20 and and a Motorcraft filter.

Gee back when I had a car I had a 1967 chevell that got 25 mpg in the city and 35 on the open road running 70mph it had a 283 V8 headers a preformance cam , 2 barrel card for a 62 283 and a powerglide two speed auto trans. And no it was not a slug on the road. And back then I didn't drive like a grandpa on sunday either. but that was 25 years ago.

Didn't read the whole thread but my old '02 Saturn SL 5 speed consistently rolled 36mpg with mixed driving. Best I ever got was 42mpg on the e way and that was rolling at an average of 85mph from Detroit to NY and back.

Time to go fire up the commuter zj, which gets amazing mileage now that I put magnets on the gas line along with a tornado.

I wondered who's coupe that was when I drove by the other day.

Knowing your preference for large displacement, and/or gofast vehicles I was a bit surprised to see that in the driveway.

I don't take that route home very often, I guess I missed the fact that the Sprader's bought the Oxbow Lake Inn eh? :tonka:

I get close to 30 mpg (28 or 29-ish) highway in my 2000 Mitsu Eclipse, 3.0L 5 speed if I set the cruise. I didn't buy it for the mileage though, it is a fun car to drive, looks good, nice interior. Not much of a back seat but it's ok for a small child. Lot's of space for hauling crap with the hatchback.
Last week when I had a meltdown at work, I left a double patch of rubber all the way through 2 gears when leaving the parking lot... gotta like that! lol
