Default Obese Inmate Sues Jail Because He's Lost 100 Pounds

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...e_n_98960.html

BENTONVILLE, Ark. An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu.

Broderick Lloyd Laswell says he isn't happy that he's down to 308 pounds after eight months in the Benton County jail. He has filed a federal lawsuit complaining the jail doesn't provide inmates with enough food.

According to the suit, Laswell weighed 413 pounds when he was jailed in September. Police say he and a co-defendant fatally beat and stabbed a man, then set his home on fire.

"On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," Laswell wrote in his complaint. "About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again."

But Laswell then goes on to complain that he undertakes little vigorous activity.

"If we are in a small pod all day (and) do next to nothing for physical exercise, we should not lose weight," the suit says. "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally being starved to death."

The suit also asks that the county be ordered to serve hot meals. The jail has served only cold food for years.

The meals, provided through Aramark Correctional Institution Services, average 3,000 calories a day, jail Capt. Hunter Petray told The Morning News of northwest Arkansas for a story Saturday.

A typical Western diet consists of 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day.

Laswell's suit was filed without a lawyer in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville.

What a moron. Its called eating a healthy diet. You know that jail has a nutritionist. The fat fukc is probably used to eating 7-10000 calories a day. I can't stand inmates who whine about their treatment. He's getting more caloric intake than free men in some parts of the world.

He is awaiting tril for murder and he is worried about losing weight in jail?

Homie needs to reevaluate his priorities.

And I think it is a federal law that all jails have a nutitionist so that this sort of thing cant happen. The feds will evaluate the diet at that jail and tell him to go play a nice quiet game of hide and go fukc yourself.

being that he hasn't been sentenced for a crime yet I'd say he does have a good chance of winning.

Except your stuck in Anti-Mc Donalds for fatally beating and stabbing a man, and then setting his home on fire.

I hate to see him being punished and losing weight. Just maybe he will live long enough to get paroled and do it again.

This is horse crap. Most likely he will loose his case. Then he will sue for something else. Alot of inmates feel that they should get more food, or more commissary. Over all the meals are prepared according to the national nutritional menu. The same standards that are used for the Military, School Cafeterias, and Prisons. They are all based off the ballance diet of 2,000 calories a day. Most people that get locked up do loose wieght. But that is not from sitting around starving to death. They have nothing but time so they work out. Oh and they don't have a car to drive everywhere too so they have to walk. Over time they loose wieght. He complains he can't even work out. So this fat ass feels he should get fatter. But he will loose his case and still be locked up.

As for the Arizona Jail, that is all good and dandy but those inmates are low level inmates and usually first time offenders. The Sherrif has this idea that if they are put in those conditions that they won't come back to jail or end up in prison.

um, the guy is not an INMATE. He's detained for trial. IE: not been found guilty of a crime yet.

The Az jail is Maricopa County. The inmates also wear pink uniforms.

And if someone got to much food in prison they'd probably sue because they got fat.

yea its a farce. when I was in county jail they fed us well. I was a trustee and it was like summer camp for the short time I was there. I saw a old Gym teacher that is doing life, he was there for an appeal. he had lost 100 lbs plus. he used to be bigger then I am now.
