Default Vince's bog in LA View paper?

There was an article that mentioned Vince's bog that was shut down or something like that in the Lapeer area newspaper. Has anyone heard anything about that?

"No more mudbogs
I was very happy to read that this year’s downtown Imlay Easter celebration was enjoyed by 220 people. That type of turnout is great for the downtown businesses and all businesses on Van Dyke as well. There also used to be an event in Imlay Township that brought 400-1,700 people through Imlay. It was a special club and family event that could be enjoyed by all, and it only happened six times a year. There was camping, good food, entertainment, music, and friends. These events started seriously in 2000-2001 and had a great run up until 2007. What event could this be? It’s mudbogging.

That’s when dad (or mom) tinkers all winter on a $500 beater turning it into a smooth running mud machine.

Oh wait. That’s right, there are no more mud bogs. I don’t know what these people will do now with their rigs.

The Imlay Township board, Judge Nick Holowka, Wanda O’Kelly and Patsy Herzog all decided in February 2008 that Vince and Stephanie Delisi can no longer have such events on their private property of 45 acres. So “forget” all the fun and laughter. “Forget” all the revenue that 400-1,700 people bring into the area six times a year. Only “remember” that when it is time to elect township officials, exactly who it was that stopped the mud bogs. — Stephanie Delisi, Imlay Twp."

Ridiculous how narrow minded people are, in the times of economic crisis they should consider everything.

Much like what Deano is doing for the area up north.

See what happen to all those city people move to the country and want all the rules changed so they can have it nice and quiet all the time not know or thinking about the rest who enjoy a little noise too. This has been happening all over at racetracks around the country here is a business or recreational area.. People complain of the noise because they moved in an area that has had these thing going on for years because it disturbs their nice quiet life and they are jealous because they don't understand that is relaxing to some.. my 2 cents or may this is a nickels worth .

as far as I can tell it was shut down because it was zoned agricultural and mud bogging is not agricultural.

I think most zoning ordinances are illegal. Townships don't have the power.

42.15 Ordinances to provide for peace, health and safety; licenses, granting, fees, bonds.
Sec. 15.
The township board of any charter township may enact such ordinances as may be deemed necessary to provide for the public peace and health and for the safety of persons and property therein, and may by ordinance prescribe the terms and conditions upon which licenses may be granted, suspended, or revoked; and may in such ordinances require and exact payment of such reasonable sums for any licenses as it may deem proper. The persons receiving the licenses shall, before the issuing thereof, execute a bond to the township when required by any ordinance in such sum and with such securities as prescribed by such ordinance, conditioned for the faithful observance of this act, and the ordinance under which the license is granted.

and

125.3201 Regulation of land development and establishment of districts; provisions; uniformity of regulations; designations; limitations.Sec. 201.
(1) A local unit of government may provide by zoning ordinance for the regulation of land development and the establishment of 1 or more districts within its zoning jurisdiction which regulate the use of land and structures to meet the needs of the state's citizens for food, fiber, energy, and other natural resources, places of residence, recreation, industry, trade, service, and other uses of land, to ensure that use of the land is situated in appropriate locations and relationships, to limit the inappropriate overcrowding of land and congestion of population, transportation systems, and other public facilities, to facilitate adequate and efficient provision for transportation systems, sewage disposal, water, energy, education, recreation, and other public service and facility requirements, and to promote public health, safety, and welfare.
(2) Except as otherwise provided under this act, the regulations shall be uniform for each class of land or buildings, dwellings, and structures within a district.
(3) A local unit of government may provide under the zoning ordinance for the regulation of land development and the establishment of districts which apply only to land areas and activities involved in a special program to achieve specific land management objectives and avert or solve specific land use problems, including the regulation of land development and the establishment of districts in areas subject to damage from flooding or beach erosion.
(4) A local unit of government may adopt land development regulations under the zoning ordinance designating or limiting the location, height, bulk, number of stories, uses, and size of dwellings, buildings, and structures that may be erected or altered, including tents and recreational vehicles.

I don't see anything in there that says if your neighbors don't like it they can shut you down or it is not a "continuance of the townships rural character"

That's a damn shame. I was at the Trucks Gone Wild bog and I thought that everything was nicely run and professional. The trucks were shut down at night and the bog didn't even get started until noon.
