Default Telescopes

Thinking of getting one, want a pretty decent one, mostly looking at the moon, maybe around the $500 dollar range. Any input / experience, what to look for or avoid, brands, etc?

if you plan on looking at land stuff get a Refractor (the kind with only lenses) If you know you are only going to be looking at star stuff, get a Reflector (uses a mirror to gather light)

Orion's are usually pretty good for the money, don't forget to add in extras into your price range, like a moon filter (the moon is very bright) and other eyepieces, etc.

Magnefication really isn't that important, its more important for the telescope to gather as much light as possible, rather than magnifying something poorly. think about it like a computer screen with poor resolution.
