CAMPUS SAFETY ALERT: OU CLOSED
Oakland University is closed Sunday, April 13, and Monday, April 14. Campus will reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 15. Following the campus safety alert sent Saturday evening, two additional threatening graffiti messages were found in separate locations on campus. All classes and campus events are cancelled. Residential facilities will remain open and the Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) will provide extra patrols throughout those facilities during the closure. However, residential students are encouraged to go home if possible.

We don't get threats just armed robberies, and for some reason it always happens during b-section.
Email Thursday:

Subject Incident near campus reminds us to be cautious: INFO

Today, around 2:30 p.m., a Kettering student was approached and robbed of $40 while he walked off-campus near the intersection of Cadillac and Gladwyn streets, (just off Dupont).

A suspect has been arrested by the Flint Police.

The student reported the incident through the online Campus Safety Incident Report, which is available for your use at: https://okras.kettering.edu/kuapps/busn_incident

Kettering safety officers will continue to work with the Flint Police Department to assure safety.

A email from school Friday:
Quote:
Subject: Two arrests in two days – a safety update: INFO

Kettering safety officers are working diligently with the Flint Police Department to assure your safety in our urban environment, but we need your help. We are asking you to take reasonable safety precautions as the weather warms up and there is more foot traffic in our neighborhood.

Flint Police officers made two arrests following incidents near campus this week. One was Thursday (near Dupont and Chevrolet) and one was Wednesday (on the Sunset Avenue bridge). In each case, the Kettering student called Flint Police, who responded quickly and made an arrest. Kudos to the students for acting so appropriately and decisively.

I am asking you to please use basic safety principles:
• Report a crime or suspicious activity by calling 911,
• Be aware of your surroundings,
• Try to use the Buddy System and not walk alone,
• Ask for an escort from Campus Safety officers, and
• Use the online Campus Safety Incident Report at: https://okras.kettering.edu/kuapps/busn_incident
Your assistance in making this a better and safer campus is appreciated.

Chief, Campus Safety
