the progress continues. got quite a bit done yesterday. started with removing the front fender supports with the spot weld cutter to prepare for installing new ones. got the holes welded up on the passenger fender and got the rot areas cut out and patched. still need to grind down the welds. we got some 1/2" oak and started fabricating the seat pans. the original wheels I bought came earlier this week too. also got the chance yesterday to make a battery hold down and will most likely finish the mounting tabs and making the J bolts for it this week. we were able to get the grill sanding going and it is progressing nicely.
when my passenger seat frame gets here It will be time for another load of goodies to the paint/rust stripper. also since the alternator on there is externally regulated I went to a buddies alt. shop and he is going to convert that to a one wire application saving me time and trouble of switching things around.

The "new" wheels. can't wait to get these finished and wrapped in the NDT's

oh yeah, the latest garage toy i got last week to ensure easy refreshment.

way ahead of you. it's in the first slot. I have it set up right now for just a single stack because I am not going to have that many people over drinking beverages at once. if I only use cans and double stack them it holds something like 400. it's a newer v540 machine. I set it up as free so you just push what you want and enjoy.

10 total selections. right now I have it filled with
high life, diet coke, diet mt.dew, 2 slots of canned faygo various flavors, water, green tea, and coke.

Continuing on the front bodywork I got the new fender supports this week. today I worked on getting the front fenders and grill mocked up and the supports welded on. looks great and everything fit together really well. Also the passenger seat frame I bought came too so I can take the rims and seat frame to the stripper.

setting up the passenger side support

passenger fender inside

setting up the driver side support

Driver side inside

Both fenders and grill mocked up

Passenger seat frame.

It's nice to see your family helping out, do you have a completion deadline?

thanks. I am hoping to have it completed by the end of next summer or early fall. currently I feel I am on pace to make that. got the body filler on the fenders today, initial prime on the grill and the repair on an original tailgate I got. as soon as I get the front sheet metal primed I will be putting it back together and run a new wiring harness. the trans and case need a rebuild so I am hoping to get that done in early spring. on the bright side have have been ahead as far as progress so far. lots of time tracking down correct parts.

what is taking a lot of time is the removal of bolts, retapping holes, labeling and buying new bolts.

Awesome progress Where did you get the channel fender supports from (red)? I need the ones that support the side of the tub next to the seats.

today I worked at repairing the tailgate I acquired that was is nice shape with only the bottom having some rust through. also today I got the fan stripped and painted, the jerry can holder painted and the passenger seat pivots painted. need batteries so those pics will have to wait.

Got some more parts this week

Correct Headlight Buckets

New Radiator

Fenders Before Starting to sand the filler

working on repairing the tailgate bottom. I ran out of 22ga. that I have been using to patch on all the rot on the fenders so I had to go get a new sheet this morning. for the bottom radius I bent it around a 3/8" piece of black pipe which worked out well.

setting up the inside & outside patch panels, welding, & grinding.

pain in the ass, especially since mine seems to have had the manual solenoid/push button starter setup removed some time ago. That and I was disappointed that it did not come with new headlight or turn signal harnesses. I did specify and got the harness to the stalk.

Nice quality though and looks original

engine will eventually rebuilt. probably going to do that last as it runs great as is right now. the trans, xfer, and rear will need attention before the motor as I think there is a pinion bearing problem in the rear. the t90 won't stay in 2nd and howls bad in third. the d18 leaks all over the place.

I have turn signals now but am removing them to go back to the original single tail light and the bullet style parking lamps. and going back to the foot starter switch.

I also have a F head T90, but know it needs rebuilt too.

T90's howled bad originally, it is because they have straight cut gears. PM sammy on earlycj5.com (IIRC he is on the 2apage as well) and listen to his first ride, his is REALLY loud.

and yes, 18's leaked form the factory, good luck sealing it up totally, after Adam resealed mine the last time it lasted a week driving it

The way the shims are it seeps out.
