Overhead, bean counters, the guy who "directed" it retired last year, etc. etc.

it's not like they make any money on it, they spend waaaaaaay more than they get back from participants.

Yup but it's not just the off road part. they like all the other activities like the kids tent and stuff. I think a trip to the UP is going to be on the agenda instead.

Because Jeep has nothing to offer anymore, most of the new jeeps won't even make it out of the trail head parking lot, with out ripping half the body off. By summer time when gas is $5.00 bucks a gallon and it costs $200 dollars or what ever just to get in to the thing, you can pretty much predict the turn out.

He doesn't know what he is talking about. Last year was one of, maybe the biggest, turnouts at Camp Jeep ever. And gas was around the same price. He doesn't understand what Camp Jeep means to some people.

Yeah.....I have a pretty good idea.

At $200 dollars per vehicle, A six hour drive to Drummond with 2-3 tanks of gas, Meals and snacks for the road,$8 bucks for a ferry boat ride, When you get on the island the price on every thing doubles.
With the way the economy is right now most poeple I know couldn't afford to take there family and do that for a weekend.

The Camp jeep people realized this, plus what ever it would cost them to haul all the stuff around and set it up week after week.

A lot of peopl in Michigan are not even sure if they are going to have a job next week, there sure as hell not going to spend $2500 bucks just to say they went to camp jeep to climb a rock wall and get a tee shirt.

I think the price for Camp Jeep was pretty reasonable, granted I went with friends so we split the cost. $245 registration and 3-4 tanks of gas divided by 4 people isn't bad. The campground charged us $70 or so dollars for the week, we usually took up 2 spots and had 10-12 people on our sites. The cost would go up if you were taking your family, but I dont think it would cost more than any other vacation.
