Default Wealth

We just had a discussion in my leadership and ethics class involving wealth.

According to my prof. (I'm unsure of his exact source):

75% of youth TODAY have "being wealthy" their top goal in life

as opposed to

64% of youths from 1980

and

48% of youths from the generation prior.

Is wealth your number one? (or at least in the top 2?)

Also, what is your definition of wealth?

Any additional thoughts?

Sure why not? Maybe not wealthy, but able to make a living and support my family.

A healthy family is first though.

Well...

For the sake of conversation, here are my definitions

I believe wealth is excess (plenty in savings/have all of the basic needs + a little/frivolous spending is not a concern)

I don't clarify wealth as being able to support yourself and have some form of savings.

I define "wealthy" as enough money to have no worries, and "no worries" is definitely a state of mind and way of life, i.e. being happy with my 12 year old pickup instead of buying a new one every few years.

Priorities baby!

Some live for the bill
Some kill for the bill
She wined for the bill
Grind for the bill
(and she used to be the sweetest girl)
Some steal for the bill, if they got to pay they bill
(and she used to be the sweetest girl)
Tonight Wyclef, Akon, Weezy and Nia

High school she was that girl that make me do the hula hoop around the gym
(Just to get a peek again, she's a 10)
High school she was
That girl that make me do the hula hoop around the gym
(Just to get a peek again, she's a 10)
Never thought she would come and work for the president
Mr. George Washington (where my money at?)
She thought he'd call (where my money at?)
She had a good day, bad day, sunny day, rainy day
All she wanna know is (where my money at?)
Closed legs don't get fed, go out there and make my bread
All you wanna know is (where my money at?)
She ended up in a road car, bruised up, scarred hard
All you wanna know is (where my money at?)
She thought he'd call (where my money at?)

Cos I'mma tell you like Wu told me
Cash rules everything around me
Singin' dollar dollar bill yall(dollar, dollar bill yall)
Singin' dollar dollar bill yall(dollar, dollar bill yall)

Pimpin' got harder cos, hoes got smarter
On the strip is something they don't wanna be a part of
Rather be up in the club shakin' for a thug
For triple times the money and spending it how they wanna
They got they mind on they money, money on they mind
They got they finger on the trigger, hand on the nines
See everyday they feel the struggle, but staying on they grind
And ain’t nobody takin’ from us, and that’s the bottom line

But I know there's a drop in the block
You move slow
You getting' pressure from cops
you don't know not to lay low
Because 25 to life is no joke
To all my real gorillas thuggin'
On top of corners every day strugglin'
All the beautiful women getting' money
Washin' them dollar bills like laundry

Cos’ I’ma tell you like Wu told me
Cash rules everything around me
Singin’ dollar dollar bill y’all (dollar, dollar bill y’all)
Singin’ dollar dollar bill y’all(dollar, dollar bill y’all)

Money, money-money-money
Money, money-money-money
It drives the world crazy

(Weezy) She used to be (she used to be the sweetest girl)

She used to be the sweetest girl ever
Now she like sour ameretta
She wears a dress to the T like the letter
And if you make it rain she will be under the weather
She used to run track back in high school
Now she tricks off the track right by school
She takes a loss cos she don't wanna see her child lose
So respect her, I'll pay up for the time used
And then she runs to the pastor
And he tells her there will be a new chapter
But she feels no different after
And then she asks him…

Cos’ I’ma tell you like Wu told me
Cash rules everything around me
Singin’ dollar dollar bill y’all (dollar, dollar bill y’all)

no, no it doesn't.

my father inlaw has a 3/4 million dollar house in venice florida. a formerly 1/2 million dollar lake front house in canadian lakes (it's michigan, so it's probably worth 100k now). they're shopping condo's now as an investment. there's a brand new lexus in the garage at the "cottage", and a new bmw, and suv in venice. he has so many high end watches that he tossed me a rolex oyster perpetual date just when I smashed my last watch taking the boat hoist out of the lake a couple of years ago - he has never asked for it back.

they own two houses out in vegas still as part of grandpa's estate. (he was wealthy before grandpa died by most accounts)

he spends more on golf in a given year than I make. by pretty much any middle/lower class measure, he is wealthy. no, he's not buying islands in dubai, helicopters, or island sized yachts, but if he were, I honestly do not feel that his outlook on life would be much, if at all different.

I say this with all sincerity, and no malice at all, while he is a very, very generous man, I can say that the man is one of the most miserable I have ever met.

I feel incredibly bad for anyone that thinks money buys happiness.

I work with incredibly wealthy people that took Concentric to the top and sold at the peak. Initial investors.

Most have more money than they know what to do with and the interesting part is very few of them are happy in life.

I had all the happiness I could handle. I will get it back eventually, but my goals were to be a provider first, and other things second. Only thing I never lost sight of was being a good dad, so I can't feel guilty about failing there because I didn't. However, I will stick to my original mindset that if you are truely happy, the rest falls into place.

I just wanna pay off my outstanding debt from school, then I should be able to be rather happy. Being in the hole $30k+ is kinda scary when these bills just started coming in and I can just barely pay my rent every month.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can sure rent it for a while.

I don't care to be rich or overly wealthy. I just want to live in a decent house and have a happy family and a few toys.
