Default Crazy image of space

This is a picture of a quasar (black hole and space gas) that the European Space Agency just released. It blows my mind that this happened billions of years ago and we're just seeing it now.

very cool. boggles the mind. especially black holes. "once matter has entered a black hole it is gone from our universe" where does it go? if we go by the thesis "matter cannot be created or destroyed, just changed from one form to another" what happens in the case of a black hole? interesting stuff.

You really want to feel small? Take a look at what Hubble was staring at.
Youtube clip

NASA pics of the day. NASA

Something else to look at while you're here.

Enjoy.

My understanding is that the matter is still there, but for all intents and purposes it's no longer "in" the universe because the black hole is so dense and compact that the matter will never be released. So, the theory that matter can't be destoyed isn't tested by black holes. The Big Bang theory on the other hand is almost the opposite of a black hole, and creates matter......

Pffffffffffft.

assuming that a black hole removes matter from existence or a big bang actually creates matter. a big bang may simply be a black hole that got full and overflowed like a toilet.

I thought of that too, but theoretically space was empty before the Big Bang, and there would be nothing to feed a black hole. There wasn't even really a space.

I don't know where that theory comes from, but I've read it. Maybe it's wrong and the Big Bang (if that really happened, who knows) just released captured matter back to the universe instead of creating something from nothing.
