Default Death in the family, 78 F-250 must go.

Hey guys…I had an Uncle pass away a few months back, and my Aunt is now going to start selling some of the things he had which she has no use for. She asked me for a little help on getting a value, and trying to find a buyer.

The truck is a 1978 Ford F-250 4x4, with 45,281 actual original miles. It is in pristine condition, my Uncle bought it new in ’78 and absolutely babied it over the years…it has been garage stored, and only driven in nice weather. Everything is original…paint, motor, interior, etc.

I haven’t had a chance to go and check the truck out in person lately, but I remember it from when I was a kid…it was my uncles baby. My mom stopped in today and got some pictures for me, I asked her to get all of the information she could…but being a woman who knows nothing about trucks, I didn’t get everything I wanted.

She asked my aunt about the motor, and my aunt didn’t know…but she said it was a gas hog. She thought it was a 350, but being a ford…obviously its not, so I’m guessing a 351 Windsor because she was close. But since it is a F-250, would it maybe be a 460?

Can anybody identify it for sure?

I had her check the cab corners and wheel wells because I know those are the first areas to go from rust….the cab corners had some paint missing and was starting to show some age, but it wasn’t rusted through at all….everything was on the surface. The wheel wells still look new.

The frame is not rusted, along with the whole undercarriage…it still looks great.

The interior looks better than my ’04, spotless for being 30 years old.

And the exterior looks awesome…

So if you had to put a dollar value on this truck, what would you say? Keep in mind, it is all original with 45k miles on it. It has working 4x4, and it is very very clean inside and out. I tried getting the value on kellys blue book, but it doesn’t go back into the 70’s, and I don't know where else to look. She was going to get it appraised, but money is a little tight for her so I told her I would try first.

Anybody?

Thanks a lot,

Kyle

p.s.
This truck is for sale, so if anybody is interested…please email me or give me a call, serious offers and inquiries only please.

**EDIT**

The truck is definitely a 400, I went over there today and looked for myself...the sticker on the valve cover confirmed it.

That is one beautiful truck. Sorry to hear about your uncle. He defiantly took great care of that thing. The motor should be a 351M or 400M. Not sure if they came with 460's.

Thanks, I dont know a damn thing about the older ford motors...so I'm no help to my aunt in that department. I'm going to do a little digging around on google to see if I can find out what was available for sure in '78.

The tag on the drivers side valve cover will tell the engine. I would try to ebay it. It will go for top dollar on ebay. I would think you should get anywhere from 7 to 10 grand or more on ebay. If I had guess i woul think the motor is a 351m or a 400. Now look at more pics i would say it should see 10,000 dollars for sure.

I would try between 3000 and 4000 only because of the shape it's in and mileage

It is worth way more that that. You just need to find the right buyer. I would also think somewhere between 7-9k at least

I just checked the same thing, but that didn't take mileage or condition into consideration.

I have the VIN# if that would help....

Yeah that site doesn't take any of that in to account. Because your looking up classic cars(trucks). But its a starting point for you.

Seeing it is a 4x4 it must be a 351m/400. 460 was a 2wd only option in 78-79 it has a C6 w/ NP205 t-case. And most likely a D44 front and D60 rear. The tag on the valve cover or their is usually one on the right side of the hood or maybe the core support that will show the evap specs. That tag will show either a 5.8 (351) or 6.0 (400).
As for price, I think you are looking at a 7-8k range selling price, but if you want to get 3-4k let me know. I would love to have another 78-79 F250, they were the best trucks built IMO.

BTW, nice clean original truck!!

yup, If the tag is too small in your pics to read, the larger numbers will atleast give you numbers you can google

Can't answer any of your questions, but you should keep it in the family and see if your aunt might pass it down to you.
