proposal engineer...

I am 25 and have been in the automotive business for 10 years now. I did not do the college thing, and even that hasn't hurt me. I make really good money, and I enjoy my job, that is the key I think...

Also what was your major in college, and if you like your career choice after working there for awhile? And what does the job outlook look like in the future?

I really need to choose a major soon but don't want to end up switching majors all the time, or choosing a major that will lead me into a job that could easily be outsourced in the future

Thanks,
Brandon

Major in business and open a Jimmy John's near a college campus or Military Base. Then open more of them. You will become a bazillionaire.

not a bad idea there is a quiznos by my house for $50k... if i had the money now i would be all over it but im just a broke college kid lol

as for career i'm really leaning to something in the energy field. It seems like energy is only going to get more valuable. And i will prob look into getting into alternative energy like geo-thermal, and wind power

Franchise owners usually just want to sit back and make money with little to no effort. At least 6 months prior to graduation, start calling corporate offices and get hooked up with an owner. Last year, the average net profit of JJ stores was $245,000.

Just make sure your franchise is located away from Michigan.

Yes, because Michganders don't like food.

But yes, you can pretty much pick wherever you'd like to live with a growing franchise company like that. Last I checked, there were only 5 stores in all of Vegas and none anywhere else in Nevada. Many states still have no stores at all.

Being a high school dropout that made good through hard work, the best piece of advice I can give is to follow your bliss.

Do what you love to do, whatever it is, and you will probably do it well because of your passion. Doing something well reaps greater financial reward, and doing what you love reaps rewards to which no dollar value can possibly measure.

My current title, whcih changes regulary as I move around, is Asset manager, but basically I am the facilities dude. I am in charge of everything from construction and improvements, to infrastructure projects, to maintenance and repair, safety, security, and anything to do with the place a business needs to DO business. I am analogous to NASA Ground Control, in that I am the one that takes care of everything else so the astronauts can focus on their mission. I'm on call 24/7 and have a crew of professionals that support me. I love what I do. If you love what you do you will never have to "work" a day in your life. I rarely call in sick or take vacations because I usually don't feel like NOT being here.

Check out Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Read what it's about. If you focus your efforts on the bottom blocks, it takes immense effort to work your way up. Go for the top: Self-actualization. If you focus on that the bottom blocks will just get filled in without much thought or effort.

It doesn't matter "what" you do for a living, but how and why. That is where your rewards and security will truly grow from.
