who knows about grass (landscapers)

i need to overseed my lawn (2 year battle with lawn that PO ruined)

can i overseed and have crabgrass preventer down at the same time? i know weed killers like 2-4-D stop germination of new seed so you can't lay overseed after weed killing with that stuff... but if i don't put down crabgrass preventer now, im screwed because it has been trying to take over my lawn for 2 years now.

plz help if you have any insights. will be putting one of the 2 down this weekend

Ther's a crabgrass preventer for use with new seed. Ask the fella at your local store. They will know exactly what you need. Bring alot of money, cause it ain't cheap.

you can use crabgrass preventers for the next 6 to 8 weeks. As for overseeding right now, with all the rain we are going to get it will just wash it away

If sod is a option I would go that route. You can Kill all the grass thats there now, and tehn get a rotitiller and till it rake it out and they lay sod. Sods not that bad if you buy it direct from the supplier (which you can) and just water the hellout of it for 2 weeks and you have a nice green yard

Need any advise pm me I used to landscape for 7 years

How big of a lawn are you dealing with?

personally i'd just seed it now with the right kind of seed, then after it starts growing start fertilizing, that way your lawn will still be green. Then worry about the crab grass next year.

Or just kill everything now and start over....

Crab grass wasn't ever that hard for me to get rid of, its that damn bent grass that would never go away.

crabgrass will not germinate until the soil temp. comes up. seed your lawn with a good seed soon and between late april and mid may you will want to put down your pre-emergent. there is no perfect time to seed your lawn, my experience is fall is best. so you might want to overseed this fall as well after the crabgrass is done for the year.

hope that helps!

Adam - You should stop into True Value and talk with our lawn & garden people. They are all very knowledgeable, and go through extensive Scotts training every year. They helped me a lot years ago when we were in a subdivision, and our lawn looked great (before we moved to the country and stopped caring as much :tonka:).
