Red face Has anyone ever donated Platlets??

I'm going to a blood drive today and I have the opportunity to donate platelets too...

It takes about 1.5-2.5 hours to do this...versus 10 minutes to normally donate blood..... just wondering what its like

Its pretty cool. The machine takes the blod out and then seperates the platelets from the blood. The machine then injects the blood back into your system. But the blood coming back in is cool and it makes your whole arm tingle. Personally I enjoy the experience. Anytime I go to donate blood I just tell them to take what they want and most times it is platelets.

Is that the one where they take blood out, do something to it with a machine, and put the rest back?

I always wanted to do that when I was in High School so I could get out of class for longer, but there was always someone else on the machine and I didn't get a chance to go on it.

i just use a magnetic oil filter thingy and a tornado air filter, so what do i know.

Whoa, does that come on randomly and then disappear after a while? Once in a while while I'm sitting working I'll get lightheaded all of a sudden for a few minutes. I normally try not to move much, it's kinda fun.

yeah it can be random... its random for me. but sitting down and having a dizzy episode might not be from blood pressure.... might be blood sugar? I get it about once a year or so.... but for me it will eventually happen if I stand in one position for a while, the blood will pool in my legs (so the doctor says) and it doesnt get pumped back to my brain and wooeeeyyy I get dizzy

We just donated some old plates last week. I usually just take them to Salvation Army.
