Default 04 CTD from 6 to 2 cylinders

Well it took some work and some research but my big pig is now running on only 2 cylinders now It is slower than snail shit but I get around 96 MPG at 65 MPH I am still working on a way to shut the cylinders down on the fly but for now the testing I have done is looking great

make copies of everything and hide them....safe deposit box or something....when the big 5 and OPEC realize that you are trying to market a 3264 miles per tank truck they will swoop in faster than shit!

then if you find it impossible to market it because of the oil companies and the government stepping in, you can just give the mod to your friends (and my friends I mean putting it on the internet and sending it to every news agency that will publish it)

good luck and keep us posted

Don't most current cylinder deactivation systems open up the exhaust valve as well?

With this setup you are just shutting off fuel to the other 4 right?

No. The current MDS (Chrysler) and AFM (GM) systems disable the valves to keep them closed.

Yes I am still compressing air and throwing it out the exhust but this was better than trying to muffle my turbo my motor is running about 17 percent cooler with pumping the air through it. my EGT has dropped and my turbo is not heating my intake air as much also

Umm you sure? I was asking Alumcj about this the other day and he said it is purely in the fuel and spark, the camshaft still spinsa nd still causes the valves to open and close like normal.....at least i thought thats what he said. Plus if you were to force the valves closed couldn't you imagine the pressure that would build up with no where to go?

GM uses special lifters that utilize oil pressure to release a pin inside to allow the lifters to not open the valves. The lower portion still moves up and down, but the top does not.

I have had GM training on AFM when I worked at the dealer.

Here is a good link that shows the process:

So where does all of the compression go or how is it released?

Are you questioning my knowledge?

"The MDS was part of the engine's original design," said Bob Lee, Vice President Powertrain Product Team, Chrysler Group. "This resulted in a cylinder-deactivation system that is elegantly simple and completely integrated into the engine design. The benefits are fewer parts, maximum reliability and lower cost."

This system should triumph where the Cadillac 4-6-8 failed because of the speed of modern electronic controls, the sophistication of the algorithms controlling the systems, and the use of electronic throttle control. The HEMI will be able to transition from eight cylinders to four in 40 milliseconds (0.04 seconds).

The system deactivates the valve lifters. This keeps the valves in four cylinders closed, and there is no combustion. In addition to stopping combustion, energy is not lost by pumping air through these cylinders.

Fuel economy gains go up to 20 percent under various driving conditions, with a 10 percent (or so) aggregate improvement, without any change in customer experienceódrivers will receive the benefit without changing their driving habits or losing power.

The "trapped air" acts like a spring. Think Fox Air Shocks.
