Default 33's with 3.73 gears in a D35??

Good idea or should I stick with 32's???

Mainly a daily driver with 2 or 3 weekends of average wheeling, nothing hard core

So if you go to 33's you will do hardcore? Or if you stick with the 32" you won't do hardcore? Why not go with a simple 30" tire size and do hardcore. This way your 3.73 gears will handle your fat ass offroading. You will look kewl, women will flock to you, and you will lose the stigma of being CC's roommate

if you dont do a lot of highway you may not notice it... I say run it, the D35 will be ok with what you do most likely.

If nothing else your junk moves...

I do drive alot of highway, granted I am only driving about 250 miles a week right now, but half of that is highway.

I know the 3.73 gears will turn the 33's, I was just wondering if it was getting borderline, cause I know the 32's run pretty good.

Oh and dave :miff:

I ran 33's with my d35 for several years.....but I had 410's.....blew up the spiders and finally the r&p. This was all non offroading too.......perhaps due to mileage....I dunno.

But with 373's I would imagine it to be okay due to lack of stress in comparison to 410's.

33" tires with 3.73's and a 5 speed you will cruise at 2,200-2,300 rpm's at 75mph. See what R's you are turning now at 75mph I bet you will only gain like 500 rpm's and will be fine. Mudqueen runs 4.10's and 33's and drives 80mph all the time.

dont you mean lose 500rpms....the larger tire with same gear ratio he has now would result in lower rpms, not higher.

I know with 4.10's I would be good, I just wasn't sure if it was pushing the envelope or 32's would be a better bet

32's and 4.10's I would not do. cruise speed at 75mph will be 2,550 rpm's

And Mike I was speaking it would only go up 500 rpms, with the 33/3.73 combo versus his 32/3.07.

Gotcha now, I thought he had 3:73's currently, and you meant 32/3.73, and 33/3.73. Just thought you missed typed it thats...not saying you where wrong.

Another thing confusing me, is I thought all Saharas came with the D44 rear and 3.73 gears? I guess not if John currently has 3.07's

I HAVE A D35 with 3.73 gears

up til 2001 Sahara's had an optional D44 which I do not have.

There are no 3.07s on my jeep!!!

Sahara TJ Model jeeps always came with 3.73 gears, the D44 was optional for a price, the original owner did not purchase it, obviously.

As for the RPM issues...I have no clue cause its the internet and everything is a Lie.

Sounds like we have the same Jeep.

I put 33" BFG ATs on this summer. It's definitely not fast, but I don't drive a Jeep to drag race people. I do have a Borla header, which probably helps.... I wish I had 4.10s (and beefier axles), but until I get the money for that, the 3.73s do an OK job. It is definitely noticeably slower than when I had 31s on there.

i ran 33's and 3.07 gears for a year to ferris state and back i never had a problem you will be fine. i know changing from a 32 to a 33 is a big step but i seriously would not worry about a 1/2 inch diffrence in radius 3.73 will be fine i promise
