im assuming you have a mini spool in there now and not a full carrier spool.. if thats the case then the locker is all you need.

Thats not a Ford 9" detroit, at least mine didn't look like that. that one looks like a14bolt Detoit.

up right hand corner of this pic is what a 9" detroit looks like

The detoit replaces the whole carrier, so it doesn't matter if you have a spool or mini spool right now. Just get a rebuilt kit, so you can freshen up the bearings/seals. If you are changing ring and pinions you should have a install kit anyway.

Besides tire wear (and only if you drive the Detroit right) a spool is better in almost all regards in a DD IMHO.

Did that for years too. FYI, a Detroit locker is going to make lots of noise during turns and you may find that you get some tire chirping.

I'd say just leave the spool as it's already installed. I've heard alot of Detroits don't do much unlocking on light Jeeps, so it may end up acting like a spool anyways.

http://www.power-trax.de/produkte/locker/locker-e.htm

look at the 4th picture down on the left side under 100% locker. it looks like maybe it goes inside the carrier..

any thoughts?

I'd say it looks like it goes into the carrier, considering there's nothing for the ring gear to bolt to. But what the hell do I know.

Run the spool on the road, i've been running my XJ welded for a year and other then sqealing a bit when parking its just fine. Tire wear isn't uneven or anything. I've also run my toyota welded with no problems other then tickets.... And i have run a locker in the rear and it would only unlock when turning into a tight spot clutch in. Other then that it was almost always locked up.

And the locker you have does look like its for a 14 bolt.... just welded one of those too.
