Default State land question

I was out on state land with a couple of buddies this past weekend... NOT wheeling.

Is the general rule that if you can drive there with a car then it is legal?

We found a really sweet spot that we would like to use for a camp site some time over the summer, I just want to make sure it is legal.

I believe it's legal to camp, but you're supposed to go to the dnr and give them a heads up on where you're at. Gimme a break. Check out the dnr website for rules/trails etc

When in doubt, check the DNR web site at : http://www.michigan.gov/dnr

The answer to your question is at the following link. I took the liberty of a quick copy and paste for easy reference.

Dispersed Camping

You can camp anywhere on State Forest Property as long as:

the property is not posted "No Camping"
you are more than one mile from a designated State Forest Campground
you follow all State Land Rules

You must also post a Camp Registration Card (PR 4134) at your campsite. To obtain a Camp Registration Card, contact your local DNR Office or e-mail us at DNR-FMD-TREES to request copies be mailed to you.**

** We are unable to fax or e-mail the permit because it is printed on two-part perforated weatherproof card stock.

Thanks for the link... looks like I am out of luck as the land in question is more than 1 mile from a state campground.

I believe also you can't stay there for more then 2 wks at a time.... which means you need to "move" camp which may be all of 1 ft in some eyes....
