Default Orv Registrations Exceed Snowmobile’s

April 28, 2008

Michigan Motorized Recreation Council

For Immediate Release:

As of March 26th of 2008, Michigan Secretary of State Data reported 358,525 titled ORV’s in Michigan. In April of 2008, Michigan Snowmobile Association reported 350,217 registered snowmobiles.

Not included in the ORV data was any SOS plated vehicle such as a truck or dual sport motorcycle, equipped to travel both, on the highway and off highway, and may have an ORV Trail Permit applied.

No records are obtainable as to how many vehicles may be both plated and have an ORV Trail Permit applied. Nor is there any data on imports sold via the inter-net and perhaps never titled with Secretary of State.

With all data considered, it is reasonable to state, total number of ORV’s in Michigan now top the 400,000 mark, providing Michigan substantial economic benefit and added recreational opportunity to the user.

The ORV riding season is now at its prime and MMRC encourages all users to remain on the DNR designated trail, marked with Orange triangles. When choosing to operate on a county road, check local ordinances to ensure compliance to speed limits, hours of operation and other local ordinances. Exhaust noise shall not be greater than 94 db (A) on any machine manufactured after January 1, 1986.

. When operating an ORV, always wear a helmet, eye protection and have on suitable protective clothing. All youths under age 16 must have DNR ORV Safety Training certificate in their possession and be under adult visual supervision.

Michigan Motorized Recreation Council public releases are the result of roundtable discussions by the leaders of major ORV organizations in Michigan, representing over 20,000 members. For additional information, contact Dick Ranney, Coordinator @ 989 469-2405
