Most likely it will be the egr cooler before head gaskets. Although with the programmer it is possible to stretch the head bolts. So if the headgaskets are the problem. I suggest you get a set of ARP Head Studs to replace the stock head bolts.

Disconnect the batteries to clear computer that will show it has a differant base program because of the chip. Some dealers wont give you warranty because of chips.

Most likely even if you clear the program with the programmer. Even if you disconnect the batteries you may still have a foot print stored in the pcm. If so the dealer will find it.

You are correct on this. The problem is finding the dealer.

Well, I hope they work with me! I will reset everything and take it in. I appreciate everyone's help and input. It will be going to the dealer tonight or tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out. On a funny note, I did have a really cool James Bond smoke screen on the way up M24 last night!! Came in VERY handy when some woman cut me off then flipped ME off for being right on her ass, then when she got back in the right lane, she starts calling me some pretty nice things out her window!! I was able to introduce her to some VERY sooty black diesel smoke!! It looked like a car fire!!:tonka:
When the guy behind her got up next to me he was laughing so hard he had tears running down his face! He said he was trying to get his camera phone to video tape it! She took off up the shoulder with black smoke coming out both front windows.

Sounds like a headgasket, and possibly a dead injector or two.... Pull the programmer and take it in for warranty. There are a few dealers in the area that will install headstuds when they swap the gaskets....

Ouch, that's not good news. Well, I removed the programmer, and I will be taking it in Monday. Probably going to have to get it towed though, tried to drive it down the driveway today, couldn't get any rpm's out of it, only a ton of white smoke! Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like I got lucky!! The dealer just called and said it was the EGR cooler and 4 bad injectors. They fixed the EGR and were replacing the injectors and I can pick it up today!! $100.00 and I'm back on the road Thanks for everone's help and input on this one!!

Yeah, I was planning on getting on Powerstroke.org when I get home. I didn't know if there was a quick explanation.

Yes. I guess something to the effect of no longer circulating sooty nasty diesel exhaust back through your engine. ask barryme1 or mattbmiller about it I know both have performed it on their trucks
