Default 05' powerstroke

Alright, I'm an idiot when it comes to diesels, so I need a little help. Drove 26 miles to work this morning and never seemed to get heat to come out. I fired it up to go to lunch, pushed the throttle down and it fell on it's face, let up on the throttle and it took off fine. When I left the traffic light it huffed black coal out the exhaust with very little throttle input, but after a second or two, cleaned right out and took off perfectly normal. I pulled the codes with the programmer and every injector had thrown a code, so I just reset and headed back to work. Now, every time I lightly touch the gas pedal it huffs black smoke but seems run fine, even spinning the tires from about 30mph roll. Any ideas?

Yeah, I figured it was dumping a lot of fuel. I have a superchip programmer on it that was set on performance. I just reset it to economy and noticed when I rev it up in neutral I have no boost registering on the guage in the dash.

No question you have at least one bad injector. I just went through this on my 05.
First one went and they fixed it. 2 monthes later 2 more went and they replaced them. Another 3 monthes and 2 more went. This time they replaced the rest of them and I bought the extended warranty for another 100,000.

Yeah but only in neutral like you said. I dont think it pulls that much boost in neutral anyway. I think it needs a load.

Ahh, I see. I will drive it and see what it does. You don't by chance know if they are under warranty up to 100,000 miles do you? I just got this thing in August, so not the original owner, but it only has 70,000 on it. Also, I don't understand what's up with the no heat issue. First time it has acted like that.

Yes they are under warranty. $100 deductable. Mine had 95,000 on it the last time. I bought the extended warranty for around $1900 that gives it another 100,000 on engine & drivetrain. well worth it if you ask me. It is like $1400 to have one injector replaced.

Not sure on the heat. I had a problem with the air on mine and there was issue with some canistor. That was not covered and cost me $800. I still love the truck though. It pulls like a dream with 2 rigs.

Thanks a lot for your input!! Yes, I love the truck. I tow a 28' Pace American Shadow GT with my TJ, a golf cart and 2 CR250's in it, this truck DOES NOT CARE!!! It's an animal when you load it up!! It's a crew cab long bed, so the ride is actually really good when you load it up and tow with it.

First set the pcm back to stock. Then go for a test drive. Then scan for codes again. Then post the codes you are getting from the OBDII.

The black smoke could be from the programmer. Although you may need to clean the egr valve.

www.powerstroke.org is the correct website that was mentioned above.

If you have any questions about your truck. Go there become a member and contact, Jon, Marc, or Scuffy on that site. They are techs that work on these trucks all the time. They will get you on the right track.

When I lost more than one injector at a time it started to stumble really bad like it was running out of fuel. Smoked when first started and started harder. Being that is should be under warranty just take it to the dealer. Let them deal with it.

I think it is going to the dealer. I'm afraid my problems may be worse than I thought. What I don't understand is this thing seems to run fine!! I checked the coolant level and needed to add a whole gallon!! Heat works now, but still smoking pretty bad. It smokes white/ lt. blue as soon as I let off the throttle??? No check engine or any other warning lights.

Sounds like you might have a crack in the egr cooler causing it to burn a small amount of coolant. This would also give you smoke and drivability issues. Get it looked at soon before you hydrolock the engine and bend a rod!

pull off the tuner, then disconnect the batteries before you take it in
