I got a few in our old dairy barn...Seams like a great place to get your own is to adopt them from the shelter....and it saves alife too.....

Just pic the ( they usually put down all the real good barn cats when they get them.)...but you can try to find the meanist , shaggyest , unsocialable one , and give it a shot....whats the worst thing that can happen....they run away and your out about $25

Just dont feed them more than 3times aweek....just enough to keep them around.....but hungry enough to hunt-- mice.....

And if you do adopt one...they have all shots...so you dont have to worry about you or any kids getting bitten and getting sick...

How far are you from Traverse City? There are several rescue groups, and one of them has a bunch of barn cats specifically for adoption. I don't know what their adoption rates are, but my GF can check before she leaves town today.

I'm guessing around 3-4 hours. Thanks for the offer but I don't think I will be driving that far for a cat, but again thanks!

No problem, just making you aware of the option. Try www.petfinder.org? Plenty of rescue groups use that site.

I have 4 cats that hang out at my back door. they have been here for a year now and the kids feed them so they wont leave. Were you at I may be able to drop them off. They are people friendly and know how to fend for themselves.

Oh, may I suggest getting the females spayed before you let them out in the barn. Otherwise, your 3-4 barn cats will turn into 30-40 before you know it...

just my $0.02, shelters won't usually adopt to you if you tell them you want a barn cat. I was looking for a second cat to keep my garage cat company and they told me thanks but no thanks at the Humane Society.
