Heres the most famous flatbed on the intraweb. Word from the wise, don't drink beer underage, wheel illegally through a marsh, then take a picture with your license plate in it. That doesn't go over well with the people in uniform :tonka:

it's plastic so you would think it would be good, but one of the lady's my wife works with has a deck that was built 2 summers ago and last summer she broke her ankle because the shit was junk! It broke and they said there was a recall or some shit on it and they weren't telling anyone until something happened! Luckily it was her and not one of her grandkids. Don't know if I'd use it or not, I bought some to do a railing once and took it back down because it sagged super bad over 4'! Took it back and went with good old wood! I guess all you can do is try it but for the cost you can prolly build 3 or 4 wooden ones!

I wouldn't put any weight on it.

Diamond plate is what the commercial flatbeds use, or oak.

I have had a flat bed. either do it in steel or don't bother. wood will rot and no matter how good you treat it road debires and chemicals eat it up. my last one had an Owens/Badger bed from Browns in Saline/Clinton . my neighbor bought his there to.

And why do you want to do a flatbed?

Are you aware that the license plate fees are higher for a flat bed than a standard pickup bed, unless you build it so the sides are not removeable...but then it's not really a flatbed.

If it's just for looks, and you have no intention of carrying anything on it, you could make it out of PVC and Styrofoam.

IMHO, if you can't afford to do it right, don't bother.

this is mine i built over the summer. 2.5x2.5 inch square tubing, 1.2 inch angle iron supports, 1x6 pine deck, expanded steel headache rach, herculined. i know the pine isnt the strongest but it isnt really going to hold to much weight and its only temperary.

the only real cost into the bed was the wood and hardware. less then 100 bucks.
