Do you all absolutely need diesel trucks? If not, quit the bitching. I can't stand listening to people bitch that a DD getting under 30 mpg is such a problem. Fuel is still cheap here.

Yes, I own a 3/4 ton diesel. I understand what it costs to own and generally only use it to tow/haul.

You can get 15-16 towing? I've managed to squeeze 14 once, but mine is 4x4 and auto.

That happened to me 4 years ago. When I bought it, diesel was 1.59. Within months it went up a buck and never came back down.

Diesel is still worth it though. I wouldnt want to tow with a gasser.

  1. I understood very little of what you typed , but did make out "Grease Car".
  2. I'm planning to run biodiesel (or possibly WVO) in my Scrambler (see link in my sig), and have researched WVO conversions a fair amount. Do your research. Everyone thinks that they can save a few $$$ by engineering these systems themselves. 10% of those people actually have the know-how and ability to do so. The rest will end up with a system that doesn't work, costs as much money, looks hacked together, or all of the above. Whatever you do, do your homework.

I'm not above a moped, but prefer my bicycles (which I have already used for commuting a few times in the last month).

This is a common "middle-class" statement. Relatively speaking, the rich are already getting screwed on taxes.

Up your dosage of meds, please. :tonka: You can absolutely do something about fuel prices. Adjust your lifestyle, don't drive as much, ride a bicycle, buy a hybrid vehicle, etc. Our lifestyle has changed quite a bit, and we have reduced driving a LOT. It can be done.

With the pop-up camper in the bed, hauling a 3000 lb trailer at 60 mph. :tonka:

you been watch too much tv :)

But yeah, we do truck stuff way farther than it needs to because we haven't invested in our rail lines in decades. If we had more hubs and a more diverse network we could reduce the trucking distances to a more manageable figure and reduce our diesel needs tremendously.
