Thanks Pete. That email looks like it ONLY went to salaried employees, those of us that contract or subcontract didn't get the notification. Being that I'm part of the ITM support organization (not sure which branch I fall under, don't really care), I'm guessing we'll probably be working still. We'll probably be doing deployments and upgrades during this time frame.

Contract peeps are affected too, it just hasn't been filtered down yet by your boss. All of our contract designers were pretty pissed today because of it. I don't have enough vacation days left to get paid for the break, so I will be collecting unemployment from the state for those 2 weeks.

I was planning on taking 2 weeks in July anyway. Just had to shift one week.

Whole AME department got the message.

How can you be upset about having 2 weeks off in July?

Some people in my department live check to check and 2 weeks hurts when you have already burnt your vacation time.

I usually get the opportunity to work at least 1 week if I supervise project work. This year I get 6 weeks off between holidays and pto time. So, I'm gonna take the two weeks off. Let someone else supervise.

For me it is a matter of not having the choice. I usually take a week off in July, but would rather have the other week for another time. Mid July, the campgrounds are too busy, there are people everywhere. Plus, reservations are gonna be hard to get at this point.

With our kids grown we can go when we choose, do not have to restrict vacations to the summer.

There are a lot of people with only 2 weeks vacation, or with other plans already paid for, or those that have burned vacation for winter time (January and February) trips to warm places.

If they had broached this possibility before the new year, well things would have been different. I guess it comes down to getting blind sided. Makes us all wonder what is next.

Schweeb, everything we have heard so far, everyone is off except essential people. I work for a group that does CATIA support. There is always something for us to do, but in this type of shut down, it just ends up waiting.

Now, I hope our group does work, but then there is the other question. Will normal over time rates be paid to those who work?

Peet,
You're not allowed to post on this site unless you come across grumpy, sarcastic or harumph lots.

It's too hot in Mid July for me to be out side.

The summer gas prices are going to be too high.

I hate crowds.

It is a conspiracy against only me

Harumph, harumph, harumph

Scooter, I hope that made you happy (sarcasm part :tonka: )

From what I understand it effects everyone, including out contractors, and overtime does not apply to those that work. We have some unhappy employees in the field.

well since they have had this shut down crap in manufacturing the CPG has never shut down in like 53 years. this would be a first if it goes forward. most likely we will be working. summer is the compliance season for most plateforms.

Its hardly "unprecedented". GM and Ford have been doing it for years.

I'll be happy to even have a job then.

My neighbor is a design leader, he said they are bitching because it wasn't part of the Union talks they just had.

Hell he gets about 8 weeks vacation anyways. Damn Union people!
