Default Chrysler to shut down for two weeks!

CNN just reported that Chrysler will shut down for two weeks in July. The reporter on Wall Street was saying this is an unprecedented step.

It's not on CNNs website yet or I would post a link.

A lot of salaried employees are affected by GM's shut down also, at least in engineering.

My bad looked at the calendar again, the last week of the GM shutdown overlaps the first week of the Chrysler shutdown.

I don't think this applies to all workers, only manufacturing. The CNN story I just read states that an e-mail was sent to all employees, and I haven't received anything yet. Sounds to me like it's going to be a company wide one time manufacturing shutdown, ala GM, rather than the staggered shutdowns that Chrysler normally does.

Ford thought of doing it a couple years ago citing utility cost savings etc... since the non-engineers can't get squat done while the engineers are off, why have them come in.

This is a new idea for Chrysler. First time in my 23 years that we will have a corporate wide Mandatory 2 Week Vacation Shutdown. Not a whole lot of happy people today.

I have always enjoyed being able to determine when to burn my vacation time. Guess that all changes now.

Can one of you guys forward the email to me? To me it's still sounding like it's manufacturing only, infrastructure and support services are still working.

Done

Business critical and some support services (i.e. security, maintenance and some IT). Corporate-Wide pretty means everyone other than a critical few.

I work in ITI-NC. We are not manufacturing and we got the e-mail.
