Having watched it, I seriously doubt it's what it seems to be. The sound is not consistent with what it's supposed to be and there's ample opportunity to have switched the puppy out for something else.

I attribute the whole thing to combat stress and boredom (as Grifter so aptly described) and an attempt to make a "funny video" (a la "Jackass").

No. I do not think a bunch of Marines threw a dog into a canyon/gulch for entertainment. I do believe they simulated such thinking it was funny, as is the practice today (i.e. YouTube, Jackass, etc...).

It IS NOT an indictment of troops currently under arms abroad and should not be construed as such. It's not like they were beheading someone - oh, wait - that's okay...

sorry my response is slow.i am cheap and i refuse to buy fast reliable i-net for the house (much less can i afford it right now)...

in relation to some of the comments sent my way. (LC4X)why the video?..i cant explain it. but heres my take... back when i served, in OEF OIF ( 4 years ago) because of the nature of our mission, we where not allowed to bring personal camera's to OEF or OIF. during our deployment's a unit camera was issued to each platoon.. at the end of the deployment each camera was turned in and gone thru by intelligence and security guys, then the pictures were returned to us. as well life was so primitive over there that our access to I-net was limited to the airfield at Bagram and Baghdad international.(we where only at these installations for incountry inprocessing and going home). and we had to use satelite phones and snail mail to contact home.

contrast that with today..they have burger king, pizza hut and taco bell at the big installations. and more then likely the internet is more prevelent across the board. i hear the boys have built pools and as well the guys have laptops and technology that allows them to access the net anywhere in the world. i would imagine that with all the creature comforts comes a slightly more lax attitude. rather then the attentiveness required for combat. throw in the boredom i spoke of ealier and you once again have bored soldiers now w/ technology and access to the big entertaining WWW. and these things happen..like someone pointed out jackass style..i dont profess to have the end all of all end alls. there is no excuse for discrediting their unit by posting this vid.

k2...your right You are not a RANGER, i know yer in the airforce and all, however unless your a PJ or ETAC or something related to those two Airforce jobs, you most likely havent got much on the ground bullets flying all hell breaking loose type experiences. sorry bro..its too easy for non combatant soldiers to say "find other other ways to deal" "man up" "see a shrink" ,problem being your not the one who four years after is still sleeping with his hand wrapped around a loaded fullsize .45(me), or having dreams about holding his dead buddies mangled lifeless body while shooting hadjis "leave no man behind" (please note i dont have the dreams, thats my section leaders burden from OEF 1).

PTSD sucks and the Big green Machine/ Marine/ Army or otherwise didnt and still doesnt have a quality program in the place for soldiers to deal with shitty incidents emotionally while they are "in country". closest you get is a chaplain (which tends to be a company size level asset)...which means until they get home 10-18 months later and get seen en masse by their units mission debrief officer or a psychlogist they dont get help and have to find ways to deal..fact is suffering soldiers who are bored make stupid mistakes.. like this video potentially could be. throw in that most soldiers are strong type A, proud individuals, they dont tend to admit having a problem or go looking for help,,lest they end up the butt of their own buddies jokes or feel it makes them look weak..which leads to joes putting up and lauhing at stuff like this out of pure desire to be trusted by their buddies.

LC4X ..we "laughed off" alot of screwy shit while i was over there. i think most guys that see shit do..they take a serious incident and find a way to laugh about it..normally by recreating it..we did it alot... usually in a skit type thing (hard to explain but thats close)...its possible this is smilar just this time someone had a camera and thought it would be funny to video.

i know this aint gonna end the arguement. and there isnt an excuse until those Marines are called to talk and can tell their story to us all. then maybe we'll know...until then its a shitty video that reflects badly on all Military members.

Grifter

Point Taken. Thank you for your Insight. I'll try to look at it from a different point of view now.

Rather, Thank you, your willingness to appreciatte and check your veiw against that of another (in this case mine) without getting angry shows great maturity..i can only speak from my experience (which is dated) and hope that we can both see things from another point of veiw..maybe in that action we will be able to see that there is no truly "right" answer..and we can hope to find a answer that best fills the outcome we wish would happen...damned if we do and damned if we dont..

thanks again...i am glad to be able share my Point of view in such a way that doesnt create a arguement..by no means am i the final authority on this..i am just trying to provide insite into the other possible options..
