Depends on what year Ranger. The later generations can fit larger tires with no lift at all. A 3" lift on an 88 Ranger for example would accept 31's while 3 inches on a 97 Ranger would get you up to 32's or possibly 33's.

on my '84 I have a 6" suspension lift on it, still had to trim to clear 33x12.50's. I've seen Gen 3 and up Rangers on 35's and I think one on 36's with about 7" of lift and full size fender flare cutouts, looked pretty slick.

I have a 97', gen 3 same as your brothers. Currently stock suspension with no body lift and im clearing 31's no issue. Im going to a 6 inch suspension and either a 3 inch Body lift or fiberglass front fender (providing i can find some cheap) and im gonna be running 35's.

31's fit stock
32x11.50 & 33x10.50 will fit with 2" body...33x12.50 will fit on 8" rims with some trimming in the front.
3" body lift will fit 33x12.50's

FWIW, I have a 6" lift on my DD, run 33x12.50's, and have room for 35's with no body lift...

Also, if he wants to skip the whole body lift crap and get a quick 2", coil spacers in the front and an add-a-leaf in the rear is cheap and will allow 32's...maybe 33's...

32's are a tight fit, i would stick with 31's.
you could run 33's, but it would really be stuffed.

when i had the 31's on my truck without any lift it would rub on the wheel wells all the time.

My truck stock had 31's on it....I never once heard the wheels rub - not a single time. Obviously, 4x4 rangers sit higher than 4x2's though.....

which spacers? do they make them for a ranger or are they jeep ones? i dont remeber ever seeing them for a ranger. we were talking about it again today and all he wants is a 32"-33" tires. hes looking for more the look then anything. is the front axle vacum disco in the '93? i havent looked at it, but, it doesnt seam to be engaugeing the front axle.

I would go for a 3" if i were him/you. Its the go big or go home sort of thing...if you buy the 2" you will always wish you had the 3". Plus this will make it easy to work on things like removing the tranny when you want to replace the clutch (assuming its a stick) or just general upkeep. it makes things a little bit better under your rig. I ended up spending up my clutch (on the rig in my photo) and had to replace my clutch with no body lift. after we put on the body lift (4 months later i put on a 3" body lift) it would have been almost 2x faster after the body lift. (the ranger is stock size in the photo).

If your talking abou the hubs, then no, you would probibly don't have Vacum hubs on that ranger. Auto hubs are always a pain in rangers. Tell your friend to go right for Lockouts if he narrows it down to the hubs...i probibly spent 2k trying to make mine work in actuators, noids, lines, and seals. i ended up finding a (Rare) lockout hub made for 98+ rangers and bought it right then and there, it was awesome knowing that the front end was enguaged. Lockouts for 93 - 97 rangers are a bunch easier to find.
