Default Starting your own business?? / any ranchers on the board?

Has anyone on here went into business for themselves?

If so is all the start up headache worth it?

I'm thinking about buying up some land and starting a cattle ranch. It's not your normal business but it's still a business.

Any ranchers on the board?

Dude, you search around, you can bribe a farmer to hump their livestock. You don't need to get you own. :miff:

I am not in the farming market but I have started my own business and we're 6 months in as a web business and I can't say I regret it...It's completley different than I imagine starting a ranch would be like, but...as far as starting your own business, it's worth it to me, but I have no kids to feed & I am still in school with a job offer lined up with my co op employer ...soooo I have little to loose.

Same situation here.

I'm thining about buying a large plot of land and making it a hobby for a couple of years and staying in my line of work and then going full time in the future.

Current obsitcals are 1. Finding a similar job in the area I want to buy the land, 2. Selling my current home to finance the land and say trailer to live out of for a while.

We are looking to down size. We have a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath house and we never go into the living room, dining room, either of the 2 extra bedrooms.

Looking to build a 2 bedroom 2 bath country house with a porch all the way around on a large plot of land

But, waking up and hoping on my horse, riding out to check on my heard seems like a life I would love.

It's a lot more work than most people think. And it isn't cheap either, unless you're in a free range state like Colorado or New Mexico. Hay and grain prices just keep going up and up and up.

I am an investor in a cattle ranch in Kentucky. The pay back is pretty good....for me, as I do not do have to do any of the feeding, etc....

6 month pay back is about 50% of investment.

These are all cows for slaughter, not dairy.
