Default 93? Anygood?

Howdy, Haven't Been in the Toy section much, but I'm currently looking at a 93 Toyota Truck. The guy said it has 46000 miles on it. Maybe 146,000. I couldn't tell. He had a very think Accent. If I do persue this indevor, I'd like to know what I'm getting into

Anything I should look for?
-Querks that this, or other toyotas, are known for
-What engine is a good one? (if there is more then one available)
- How's the tranny on these? It's an Automatic, Is it easy to swap to maunal if I needed to?
What kind of MPG are we talking. Fueleconomy.gov said from 13-18. The guy said 22-25.

Any tell tail signs of something almost ready to break?
Anything that you say will help. <----Well, about the truck.

This truck is one of my dream trucks, I just want to go about this logically, not Blinded by stupidity. Oh, he's asking 3800. It looked pretty rust free. Thanks guys.

Those years are I believe either a 2.4 liter (22RE) or the 3.0 liter V6. The 22RE is a good engine, although its just a little 4 banger, so its underpowered. The 3.0 isn't very powerful for a V6, but its not a terrible motor. They had some issues with headgaskets, and don't like t be flopped onto the passenger side.

The automatic is an A340, which is the same thing as the AW4 in Jeep cherokees, its a solid transmission.

A manual swap isn't terrible, I did it with my 85 toyota, pretty much grab the parts and swap over.

I'd guess a 4 cyl truck is around 20-25mpg, and around 15-20 for the v6? Just a guess.

Thanks! I just took another look at it (the Guy works at Meijer and parks it there) and the bed is in pretty Rough shape. Nothing that couldn't be Rhino lined and fixed, but just pretty rough looking. The front is Imaculate. And the frame is Black. Not rust. Now, I just need to sell my explorer, or wait for the Tution refund from this semester come back. Once again, thanks. If anybody wants to Chime in, I would Appreciate it.

Just my .02, He states no rust but you said the bed is rusty?

Also too many new parts. Well what new parts were put on? and Why, did he use aftermarket or OEM?

We are still talking about a 14 year old Michigan vehicle. or did it come from another state?

Very good points. I believe he said it's from Maryland or Missouri or something. Except for the bed, It has no rust. When I was talking to him on the phone he started rambling on about all the new parts. Most sounded like engine parts. Like I said. He has a Very think Accent and he does not talk slow. For now, I'm waiting for my explorer to sell because I have no money to buy a different vehicle. If It's Available still I might pursue it.

I would ask him where the 3rd row seats are he states it has.

Well the 3.slo isn't much stronger in the power dept. than a 22Re(at least the couple I drove). Not sure if I would $$ $4k for it though.

i bought my 91 with 160,000 on it for 1850 and the motor, tarnsmission, and transfer case was went through and rebuilt by toyota 30,000 miles before i bought it and it came with a 2 inch body lift and front bullbar with 33's on it. You can probably find a better deal as these are cheap vehicles but its up to you. If you have any problems this is a great place to find out how to fix them as someone has been there had that problem lol. I would look around but if nothing else buy it because they are fun little trucks. I have the 3.0 and i love it, just a little underpowered but i also have 33's. Parts are cheap for these trucks too. http://www.carpartswholesale.com/cpw...kup~parts.html is a great place to find parts for cheap. Good luck!

If you are running stock gears with 33s, I bet that thing is sloooooow on the takeoffs.
