Yeah, that's great. So it either didn't get done, or the last time we discussed this was at least a year ago.

Oh, look - it was. Now I just need to find the conversation that discussed 2-letter searches that I know I had. :tonka:

Unless someone knows where in the sql setup is the character limit per search variable is.

It doesn't matter what vbulletin variables I edit, because it doesn't use that anymore, its a direct shot to the sql search

you suck at the intraweb if you think gl4x4 makes a penny from a google search.

Its there to keep guests from using the vbulletin search which puts a hurtin on the server.

Ok, I just looked into it.

We used to use vbulletin search, it was horrible, and it would give nonsense results. We switched to SQL Full Text search, which has a minimum character amount of 3 letters. This will never change. If you want to search for two letter items, you must use google.

The thread you referenced PP was a thread right afterwards of switching to full text. The default full text minimum is 4 letters, so I switched it to three.

Not sure... The problem with the google search is you will get x amount of pages indexed depending on your geographical location. If you're hooking into googles server in ann arbor, it will yield different results then the google server in detroit.. etc.

You can do a google search:

site:greatlakes4x4

To find out how many pages are indexed in that particular server. Right now I 'm hooked into a server that only has 57,000 indexed pages.

I understand that, but here is the problem.

YJ site:http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15 (which was parts or vehicles for sale)

Yeilds

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

YJ in all sorts of forums.

http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13 (my address bar for marketplace only)

so.

YJ site:http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13 on google equals

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

which essentially is the same results as yj site:greatlakes4x4.com

Yes, When you do a search through the google search box on gl4x4, its simply adding in site:greatlakes4x4 and then doing a search for your keyword.

You will get the same result from gl4x4's google setup as you would going to google and using the site: key

Its something that is not fixed. In the coming month, I'm upgrading this server, as 6pm-10pm every night has had the processor pegged at 100% non stop. I might go overkill on the next server and allow two word searches.

This however hasn't been a problem or even noticed (at least reported) in the last year.

Yeah, I was doing my searches directly on google.

It would be nice like when searching for a YJ door. or a YJ Tub, etc. But really no huge inconvenience, there are ways around it.
