Default Wedding Venues

Looking for some input from the board. Fiance wants to get married in MI so that family and friends can attend. We are looking to have the ceremony in the tri-county area.

What were some of your favorite wedding locations? What did you like about the venue? Were there any you would recommend staying away from?

Any advice is appreciated!

We are getting married in the Pavilion at Apple Mountain in August, the rehearsal dinner is in the round room attached to the lodge overlooking the hill, the reception is at the Black Forest Brewery in Frankenmuth, the upstairs room of the brewery is really cool.

The large pavilion in this web album is the one... Fits like 250 people or something. The Kaufman room in the pics is the one with the exposed wood beams, balconies and dance floor with bar in the corner. It is going to be very nice, and pretty inexpensive as well.

back in 1995 we got married here: http://www.wellersweddings.com/

technically slightly outside of what most people refer to as the "tri county" area - but sounds similar, we had a shiton of folks coming in from out of town as well.

outdoor wedding, followed by a champagne brunch in the carriage house (that top picture) we had done the majority of our drinking in college and didn't really need the "everyone drunk/passed out at the vfw hall/golfcourse club house reception"

that being said I have been to a couple of really nice weddings with receptions at some of the local area golf clubs and most have done a pretty nice job

Alot of people get married at my parents place, which is the largest herb and flower garden in Michigan. It is located in St. Clair County.

A little further south then you asked for but we got married at Beaver Creek off Rochester Rd. just south of Lakeville. Nice place, cheap at the time and a good setting.

My reception was here http://www.horizonscenter.com/ everything was excellent except about 8 mos before the date they claimed to have lost any record of the wife and I leaving a deposit and having a contract reserving the date. Thank god we had a cancelled check and receipt or they would have had no problem leaving us high and dry 8 mos before our wedding.

Black Forest is super nice. My friend had his reception there 3 yrs ago and everything went smoothly

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Motorcityman, most of the wifes family is from the Downriver area. We have been looking at the following places:

Plymouth Manor
Webers (Ann Arbor)
Grecian Center (Southgate)
Burton Manor (Livonia)
Arnaldos (Riverview)

Thanks RyeBread! That is a really unique venue. And it is definitely within our driving distance for the family. Great suggestion!

Did you see the log home in the background? Check it out at Christmas!

Arnaldos has the best food and service than anywhere I have ever been. If you haven't checked them out in person you need to do yourself a favor and go see Mario. Mario is one of the owners and he went way out of his way for our reception. I have since been back there about 4 times for other receptions and they were just as nice as our's. All of their food is made from scratch, no frozen stuff in aluminum trays. The new bar there is awesome too with a waterfall behind the bar.

My cousin got married at Wellers a few years ago and it was a very nice place. The food was ok but the atmosphere made up for it.

We got married at the Pinckney Yacht Club in the early spring. The place is great, the chef was incredible to deal with, and the prices were great. In the off season, they will deal to get your business.
