No I'm not. I'm assuming that sync will crash, just like every other microsoft program. And someone is going to think the only way to get sync to work again is to shut their car off and start it back up to reset the sync software. This will also be done while the person is hauling ass down the expressway in traffic. People are stupid, it will happen and it will cost Ford millions in the lawsuits, because people will get in accidents while their steering columns are locked because they shut the car off.

Have you ever seen an Xbox blue screen?

Ask Jesus about design for known specs and constraints. It's fairly easy to come up with a program that is stable and safe within known constraints and parameters.

Default Sync vs OnStar

Tell me what is the difference: Ford has the hands free call features plus the Music system and GM's "Call for directions and run a car diagnostic" On Star (which GM has had in their vehicles for many years). I wonder if GM has ever done a safety study with their system?

unless you were being sarcastic..
several studies have demonstrated repeatedly, that having an involved discussion whilst driving, regardless of whether one is using a hands-free phone, a traditional cell phone, or even having said discussion with another occupant in the car can be correlated to just as 'distracted' as one impaired by alcohol.

the problem is, across the world, driving is largely dumbed down to the lowest common denominator with so many safety features that the true danger of the physics involved are largely nerfed by them. in other words it's a lot less dangerous out there than it should be considering how few people are really actually driving their car actively vs. pointing it in a general direction and checking the progress every 3 or 5 minutes...

we love to complain that our speed limits are so artificially low compared to the capabilities of today's cars and the condition/maintenance of non-Michigan freeways - we lament that we don't get to do autobahn like speeds in our country. then on our next road - trip drop our blackberry into our caramel machiatto, whilst steering with our left knee as we make a right turn across 3 lanes of traffic whilst scolding the kids in the 3rd row seat for having the TV on too loud, and the kids in the 2nd row seat for not sharing their happy meal toys all the while wondering what that last incoming text message said as the blackberry plummets to the bottom of that trendy drink while applying that finishing touch to the hair/makeup/shaving or checking out the person in the next lane...

Oops: Blue Screen Of Death Interrupts Gates' CES Show

By TechWeb Technology News
Bill Gates' keynote presentation Wednesday night at the Consumer Electronics Show didn't quite go according to plan: glitches, including a dreaded "Blue Screen of Death," interrupted the show several times.
Microsoft's chairman, who shared the stage with late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien, kept his cool when Microsoft Media Center crashed during the presentation, and an Xbox displayed the blue screen of death.
As the Xbox went down for the count, the Microsoft executive running that part of the presentation, Garrett Young, said, "This is a little bit of demo karma, sorry, I'm out of system memory apparently. Yeah, so just imagine, if you will, that I was customizing my car and doing some really cool stuff."
O'Brien played to the crowd during the crashes with lines like "right now nine people are being fired," and "Who's in charge of Microsoft? Oh."

People still fawk around with iPods or CDs.

SYNC changes nothing. People still drive around talking with passengers, on cell phones, or reading fawking pieces of paper or books while driving.

I have the U-Connect system on my car and absolutely love it for it's phone feature alone. Talking on a cell phone and driving a stick can be a bitch.

What I'd like to know is how they got the voice recognition to work so well on both Sync and OnStar, I've used Naturally Speaking for a while and (at least with version 8) you have to go through that awful training session.
