My wife's a geriatric nurse - and she says that's not all that uncommon.

She's ran across it multiple times.

You may find this shocking, but often the people that take Nursing Assistant jobs are not always at the top of the employment food chain.

my father turned 57 in August. He's had parkinson's for over 17 years.

unfortunately, he doesn't really remember his 57th birthday. or most of the time the names of my sons.

See, in June, after having nasal surgery, he suffered respitory arrest. We believe that he aspirated a blood clot from his nasal surgery, which lead to the respitory arrest.

Physically he has recovered. Mentally he has not. Yes, we understand that one of the long term stages of Parkinsons is the onset of dementia... He has also suffered a HUGE loss in cognative ability since his trauma and near death.

He's not safe to be by himself, and my mom can't retire for another 4-5 years.

He is now in an adult foster/group care home.

All said, would he normally want to be there? No. Does he sorta understand why he is there? Yes, some of the time. Out of the facilities we toured, and have had him placed in - this one he had a part in the decision, so he is adjusting 'ok' to it.

That all being said, it's not ideal, but life happens. If you don't want to be revived, and put in a facility, make those wishes known LEGALLY.

My father didn't have a DNR order in his legal paperwork when he was discovered unresponsive by my mother. They were in the midst of doing estate planning when it happened back in June...

one always thinks they "have time" to make those decisions, and to articulate their wishes on paper.

you don't. If you thinking along those lines, get it in writing, and laid all out.

Well said Rye Bread

My father iturns 54 on Christmas. He has been in an assisted living/nursing home for close to two years. It was best for him, and he really enjoys. The only problem is it is in Grand Rapids, and we all (family) live in Oakland County. But they have experience in his disease, so it was the best place.

Yeah, its an addiction. She deserves to be prosecuted.

I have a friend whose sister use to take the IV tube when a patient died that was on morphine. She was a morphine addict and a registered nurse.

She finally got busted. (This wasn't her only way of 'stealing' morphine.) I think she got what she deserved too.
