Got an ipod nano, (gift) use it on linux with gtkpod.
Yes, there are much easier ways to get MP3's on a portable device.
Got some little player at inkstop for my son, 1 gig for $20, drag n drop in media player no problem. I think they had them up to 4 gig.

Who the hell uses WMA, it's pretty useless. If you intentionally rip your collection to WMA, you're a moron, and it's pretty hard to download illegal WMAs - because no one cares to use the format. Legal WMAs are just as worthless as Apple AACs, as they're DRM laden.

Those of you who have devices that can only be managed by Windows Media Player, and then say that iTunes is proprietary obviously have a blinder over your eyes. The only real, non-proprietary method are the players that allow you to drag and drop files to them like a hard drive, and play them directly.

Direct-play devices are perfectly legit, but there's some cool stuff you can do when there's actually a database that gets updated, which is the general reason you need to use proprietary update softwares for certain devices.

You don't have to convert them, but you do have to use iTunes. it's easy peasy lemon squeezy.I personally would not use any other MP3 player than the iPod, had it for a year and love it.

Send a message via Yahoo to gotsand?

I have both a Ipod and Zune....both are super sweet. Let me tell you something about the video part though....having 100% instant access to full length porns is the shit. Not to mention full length regular movies.

My Free Tunes is a good program for stripping the DRM protection from music downloaded form itunes, so that is a moot point now when considering the ipod.

I think the controls on both, but I think the Zune fits better in my mitts.

just my .02

I have my kids old Sansa (she has an ipod now) It works great. Drag and drop, plays radio. Mine is an older one, so it doesn't have a big memory.
