No. I had a radar detector once. Got pulled over and the damn thing never went off. It was a $200 Cobra too. I threw it out the window at 75 mph on I-96.

Waste of money if you ask me. If you feel the need to do 90+ mph, go to a damn drag strip or race track.

That might just mean that he never shot radar. Getting pulled over and radar have nothing in common.

I have had a hand full of different radar detectors. They have saved me more times than you can imagine. It does take more than just a radar detector to not get tickets. It takes quite a bit of common sense and paying attention to your surroundings. The radar detector helps though.

I have the escort 8500. save some money buy it in red. save some more money and have a friend that works at best buy, or circuit city buy it on their employee discount. supposedly can get it for under $200.00 with that discount.

I have some shop in NYC that I paid $250.00 for mine 3 years ago.

re: the lasershifter - never have I heard or read any positive, or good things about laser jammers

re: throwing $200.00 out the window on the freeway - sounds like Jeff deserved a 2nd fine for littering...

where I find mine most valuable is on secondary streets. many go from 55 mph to 45 and/or even 35 mph with little to no warning - such zones are also quite often speed trap zones and provided you are driving with a little bit of traffic one can often catch the warnings of instant on from the traffic ahead of ya which provides a nice reminder to slow down, which gets back to the crux of it.

more police visibility is more of a detterrant imho than handing out fines.

Jammers work great. I drive 30,000 miles a year and I have not had a ticket in 6 years. I dont speed much but it sure helps when you are in unfamiliar areas and the cops are hiding in the ditches. I use the valentine radar detector and the escort shifter jammer. I keep them low profile on my windshield and they work great. my jammer is older it has the front mount not the rear. Thanks for the link I will order one today. great price. I have seen jammers upwards of $1500.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Passive Radar/Laser is legal, but Active Radar/Laser was illegal? Can anyone clarify the laws on that?

Always heard that jammers were BS and illegal. Check this out.

Oh no, he got a radar reading. I fought the ticket. I got the points lowered and that was about it.

Jammers are illegel. Essentially you are broadcasting on a police frequency without a license when you use one. They're not always caught, but can be.

I haven't had a radar detector in 10 years. You can routinely get away with driving 8 over on the highway and 5 over on regular roads. I got rid of mine when I figured out that I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings, since then I've only been hit twice.

If you have a minivan, that's a free pass to go as fast as you want.

We have a minivan that only gets used for long trips. I can go between 80-90 all the way up 127 up north and it's as if I'm invisible.

radio/microwave broadcast frequencies are federal, not state/local.

edit. nevermind. too tired/sick to argue it or look up actual statutes.

from wiki's citation lacking note:

Quote:
Radar Scrambling
Although some companies advertise that their radar detectors can 'scramble' or 'absorb' radar and LIDAR (such as Rocky Mountain Radar), many or all of their products do not affect radar and laser equipment due to the low power intake from the device versus the high power that bounces off a vehicle.[1]
In the USA, it is illegal to sell or possess any such products that transmit radar signals intended to jam radar equipment.[2] Actively transmitting on an FCC licensed frequency without a license is a violation of FCC regulations and a felony. LIDAR jammers are legal in most states and are regulated, much like police LIDAR guns, by the FCC as Class I laser devices.

Actually, if you look at the FCC warning on most anything you buy, it is against the law to create interference over any electronic device, no matter what it is. So it is pretty cut and dry why radar jammers would be illegal.

yeah, but the wiki link came up before a scanned image of an FCC warning label :tonka:

that, and one could attempt to prove that one wasn't trying to cause eletronic intereference but rather to simply send out signals from a transmitter to another receiver in some other location :tonka:

it's my understanding, compiled from various source documents over the years, consisting of numerous articles written on the subject, each with their own refrence documents, none of which I am readily willing to look for given that Mark's attorney would likely charge him $200/hour for the search and he's paying nothing for me to search+paste here; that the federal laws specifically enumerate, and identify radar jammers as illegal by definition, aside from any electronic intereference they may cause. :tonka:

Escorts are some of the best on the market. I have had 3 different ones, everyone has saved me one time or another.

my escort(8500) has more than paid for it the 2 years I've owned it, how ever all radar detectors lack in giving you adequate warning for laser.
