XJs perform well, are cheap, and get decent mileage (the 3 I owned all were in the ~18-20 mpg range, even when lifted).

Downside, though, they are small, especially in the back seat, so might be cramped for kids + dog(everyone has different personal preference).

They also have shitty wiring...

Tahoe, then XJ, then dead last a S-blazer. I work at a dealership and see plenty of problems with them.

I have a 98 Tahoe that I love. If you have any further questions, pm me and I'll help the best I can. I have had 8 XJ's over the years, and will say that IMO, the 97+ are the way to go.

you ask a group of jeep guys if you should buy a Chevy or a Jeep

I vote for a 4-runner

99 Tahoe. 5.7, drum rear brakes.
Traded a 97 Bravada in on our 99 Tahoe 5 years ago.
The Tahoe gets 19mpg ,the Bravada's best way 14mpg hwy.
And the center two seatbelts in the rear seat of the T-trucks, is 9 inches apart.
