Angry Negative Feedback Rant

A few weeks ago I bought a single used aluminium wheel off ebay to complete a set. First off in the pic it was mounted on a tire, description stated it would not include the tire. I was the only bidder and won the auction. At close of the auction I used paypal immediately to send payment. Four days later he calls to ask If I want the tire with the wheel, I say no thanks; why hasn’t it already been shipped? He says ok, I will dismount it and ship the wheel. Three weeks go by and no news and no wheel! He didn’t so much as respond to an email, or phone call, so I gave him till the Friday of two weeks ago to contact me or have the wheel delivered. Friday comes and goes, so I report him to ebay for stealing my money. Another week goes by, my wheel showed up this past saurday, with the tire still mounted on it. And worst of all, he leaves me negative feedback because “I reported him to ebay without trying to contact him first”.

The thing that pisses me off most is if you are selling something on ebay, it should be ready to ship as soon as payment is received, not a day later unless it is included in the description. He sat on my item for weeks after being paid, and still shipped it with the frickin tire on it.

End rant

Instead of using the little 100 letter feedback reply, make a website address with your story and link to it, or link to this thread..

That's your problem right there. If this is what you think, you will never be successful on eBay. Don't ever expect immediate shipping unless it is explicitly stated in the terms of the auction. I know its how most people think things should happen, but it rarely works that way in reality if the Seller isn't actually an established business.

Furthermore, you didn't say anything about any shipping dates promised to you by the Seller at all, which leads me to believe there weren't any. That's something you always want to nail down during early communication for this exact reason. Did he every tell you "It'll ship in X days."?

If you waitied at least a full 30 days from the date of payment (same as close of the auction in this case) before you reported him as a non-shipping mofo, then I'd say you probably did the right thing. Otherwise, I think you jumped the gun. Its kind of hard to tell exactly how much time elapsed since you said "a few weeks ago". People don't speak in terms of weeks like that unless they are talking about a time frame that is less than 1 month.

Not much to say about the tire. Did he have to eat the extra shipping on that, or did you pay for it?

Id have to agree with PP.

Ebay is NOT a store, nor am I. I cant stand bidders that expect me to behave like one. Peoples expectations have become so unreasonable on Ebay, I now put the disclaimer on my auctions that I generally ship within 2 weeks, time and holiday permitting. And that if they are the type to nag me, or want to leave negative feedback because I didnt ship right away, to not bid.

If he didnt specifiy a shipping time, and it wasnt over 30 days. You jumped the gun. You are allowed to be annoyed but reporting him was done too soon. I think the seller was within his rights to warn other sellers that you are that kind of bidder.

everything I sell on ebay is ready to ship as soon as it sells. I hate waiting for slow shipping and make sure I get the items i sell out the same day or next morning, no later.

Exactly, if you aren't ready to ship it, maybe you jumped the gun listing it!

I only got worried that after a month, i had not heard anthing since the day we spoke about tire removal, which he said would take him an extra day to remove and then would ship. 16 emails and 18 calls were made to seller over the last month and a half, none got answered.

Since i recieved the wheel one week after reporting him, it leads me to believe that it didn't ship til he noticed being reported.

Everything I sell gets shipped the minute the check clears, which can take some time because of deadbeat buyers its the only way I roll.

That said I have only sold like 2 things on ebay.

I always try to ship within 2-3 days max of payment, I expect the same in return. Wait 30 days for someone to ship an item? Don't sell shit if you can't pack it and get it out within a week.

I understand some say "I go to the post office once a week on Fri" so you know when it should ship, but if it's not stated, your supposed to wait 30 days? Wow, that's a new one to me........... I leave negative feedback after two weeks and no response to e-mail requests for shipping information.

If you have time to kill, start reading through all of eBay's terms & conditions. You'll eventually find the reference to 30 days. I found it when dealing with a deadbeat a long time ago. Because I followed their rules to the letter and waited a full business billing cycle before reporting him, his negative feedback was removed from my account. 30 days is normal business practice.

I'm not saying that its okay not to ship promptly. Immediate shipment is ideal. I'm saying that making the assumption and expecting that of someone is setting yourself up for failure. If you need something with a quickness, eBay isn't really the best place to get the job done.

PP as you know I have no time to kill whatsoever:tonka:

That's pretty stupid, someone can ignore e-mails and not ship an item for 30 days after being paid, but if it's "policy" I guess it's okay

I assume feedback will be reversed if you prove attempts to contact him.

Also, I tend to ship in the fashion I recieve payment. If I get paid quickly I ship quickly. There has been times that I haven't gotten payment for a week or 10 days. I take my time shipping in such instance.

Things I sell on Ebay are packed and ready before I list the auction. As soon as payment is recieved/cleared, the item goes out the next buisness day. 2 weeks or more of waiting after auctions end to receive and item is too long IMO. I have left neg feedback for slow shipping if it's been over two weeks, and the seller hasn't responded to email or Ebay messages. If they've responded, and been over 2-3 weeks, my feedback depends on their response.

The only way I found to remove a negative is for the buyer and seller to communicate and mutually agree to remove negative feedback. If both parties don't agree it will never happen. I have bought and sold a lot on e-bay and have only had one bad transaction. Everything else has gone very well. When I sell I never ship until I receive payment. I do have everything boxed prior to shipping and the item goes out once payment has cleared.

That's barely 9 business days. I wouldn't get excited just yet.

What did the seller specify for handling time?

Near the bottom of the shipping & handling info, you'll find a "Domestic Handling Time" notice where the seller informs the buyer how many days he'll ship after specifying his payment criteria.
