When your talking about land use you have to fight your battles. Drummond island it not only beautiful, it's got some seriously rare flora.

Most of the people on this site are not the ones tear assing around Drummond, but a lot of the people that wheel there have no respect for nature at all.

Is it worth loosing what Drummond looks like? It's just as awesome on foot or on bike.

Are you mad we can't wheel in Yellowstone too? Don't even get me started on the sleds that run through it in the winter.

The park there is open, and is private. Wheel the park, hike the trails... I'm rarely a hippie, but I feel pretty strongly about this one.

true but why concede

Yep. Why continue to spend money in this state when the Moley Bitch wants nothing more than to outlaw anything related to 4x4's and off-road recreation to pander to her enviro-nazi allies? I am all but done with wheeling anything other than private parks in Michigan. I still support GLFWDA and wrote my dues check last night. But, why risk getting illegally ticketed when I can load up, drive 6-7 hours, and enjoy incredible wheeling in states that support, encourage, and appreciate off-road recreation? Thanks, I'll spend my money in Kentucky or Tennessee.

I know these guys too, and I can second Motor Slut on this, I really think they are idiots.

I actually talked to them about this back in the fall, and it really didnt seem like that big of deal to them. That pissed me off. Just didnt get in their heads about the damage that it actually did cause, they just thought it was normal to do things like that. They explained that they thought it was a trail and blah blah, and seemed to blow it off. Idiots like that ruin it for everyone else

This just sucks that there are people ruining the four wheeling on drummond island and every where else in michigan for that matter.

and this goes to monkeyevil:

I love four wheeling in my own state on state owned trails. I think most people that four wheel love nature and it is the whole point of four wheeling to me. Sure turtle ridge is fun and challenging but there is nothing like driving out to shale beach or up to marble head. DRIVING mind you not walking or biking, because there is just somthing about taking a vehicle back there that makes it so fun. Stay on the trails and nothing gets hurt you get to see more nature and scenery in one day than you could in a week on foot. To think there is anyone in the four wheeling community that would want to close any currently open public wheeling areas just astounds me. There are so many organizations working right now to get the trails on drummond designated orv routes, and it is a shame that anyone would rather see them closed, especially a fellow wheeler.

It's a shame that you think most wheelers in this state love nature.

I am not a nature buff myself. I don't like drummond Island. I will never go there again. The wheeling was crappy, the trails were pooly marked and I don't really want to ride a mountain bike around there either.

I fourwheel because I enjoy pushing a vehicle pasts it's intended limits. I have come to the realization that I can't do this in Michigan and I no longer wheel in michigan. I also not have any intentions of driving to the UP to go hiking or anything. To be honest, I would be surprised if I ever traveled any further north then Grand Rapids ever again.

You should try canada, sometime.

*lol*

Are we not welcome in this state anymore

Canada (and Michigan) wheeling is not our style. Different strokes for different folks.

Amber and I enjoy camping, biking, hiking, geocaching, and boating. This state is awesome for that. We go North all the time in the summer.... the Jeep stays home though.

Just curious if you (or brian) have actually done much up there. There's rock if you know where to go. Lot different than most of the UP.

Nothing wrong with mud, though. Damn you, michegangeepers , you did this to us, bringing all these mud-hating sissies to the sport

I love wheeling in Michigan. I just drive around with my rubi on the trailer, keep the miles down that way. Sad about Drummond Island and I really hope this state gets it's shit together and Brian I'll take $50 to stop bitching about you for one week.:tonka:

Drummond is awesome for fishing, hiking, camping, etc... it really is a unique place. I don't say this often, but they should probably close all the public areas to wheeling.
I understand where you're coming from.

However, if the "uniqueness" of the area is reason alone to close it, stand by for everywhere to be closed. I'm sure radical enviro-nazis can find reasons that The Mounds, The Badlands, Redbird, The Cliffs, Harlan, Windrock, and Rausch Creek are also "unique ecosystems" as well.

It's that whole issue of balance - we have to balance access to public lands with our fiduciary responsibility to protect and preserve them. While I love the wild ground, I refuse to consider humans a virus upon the planet that must be excluded from areas to preserve them.

If some 'tards illegally wheel and damage the wild grounds, string 'em up.

HIkers, bikers, etc do damage, too. Pretty interesting exhibit on Mt. Desert island out in Acadia showing pictures over the years how much damage is caused by people.

I agree with some of those earlier comments, You need to go off the beaten path to see some of the real beauty of yellowstone.
