see ya' at districts, I'll be there helping run 'em at one of the 4 tracks.

if you haven't looked already - check out derbytalk.com they take it a bit extreme with their 'science' of wheel alignment, etc. but there are some neat designs there as well.

nice. my dad and i used to make them all the time. we have several corvettes and a couple of indy car modeled ones. the truck him and i just picked out had the same dark blue metallic as the 67 stingray we mad that took first in show and 2nd on the track. one of our secrets wat to balance the tires on a lathe and use graphite lubricant to make them turn smooth. good times.

I did this once. I sucked it up. Last place. I Got a Trophy though In High School I volunteered to record the local Derby for our Cable Station (ClawTV) It got pretty boring and took forever to edit. I did get to use our brand new Professional Grade JVC's though. They were so nice....The portable Live studio wasn't too bad either. I miss those days.

lol, I bought that movie when I was a Cubmaster. I planned on showing it to the kids and parents. We had a lot of parents building cars for their kids with no involvement with the kids. Bunch of Ford engineers live around here (need I say more?). The leadership didnt think it would go down to well so I couldnt do it.

Congrats one the hardware and better luck next year.

Pack 409 races later this week....
Here are the 3 that were made in our family.

The Pink is an open class car that my 5-year-old daughter designed and worked on.

The Orange one is my son's tiger cub truck... It looses some dimension in the photo.

Mine is the black one.... also open class.

Pack 409 held their Pinewood Derby Saturday and while I personally had a rough day with the computers and timers on the track messing with me.... We had to resort to Plan B and score things by hand.

My son Matt and daughter Claire each scored some hardware for their work.

Matt raced in the tiger rank and won perfect 6 first places in 6 races to earn the title fastest Tiger cub.

Then the fastest 3 cars in each rank (tiger, wolf, bear, Webelos) advanced to the fastest in pack races. 12 cars raced and Matt and a Wolf Cub David each scored 34 points with 4 first place finishes and 2 seconds place finishes each. (They each beat each other 2 times in the racing) Because they were tied we had a best of 7-tiebreaker which was the most exciting races of the day. Each boy drew lane assignments for each race based on A-6 playing card draw. This doubled the excitement because everybody had their own feelings about the fastest lanes...Even though statistically there was not a difference between the lanes.

After being down 3-0 the little orange truck scored 2 consecutive victories to make it 3-2 but in the end lost the best of 7 races by only a couple of inches for 4-2 defeat for fastest car in the pack.

After the Cubs Scouts ran their races an Open Car field of 17 was run. This was a class of cars and competitors of Dads and siblings. Claire scored a 3rd place in this class loosing out by one point to a kindergarten classmate Taylor. The First place was won by the Pack Master's Daughter to make the Open class winners all girls.

I had a rougher day of it with an official 6th place tie in the open class.

Here are the pix

3rd Place open class for the Pixie Powered Pinewood Derby.

First Place Tiger Rank and Second Fastest in the Pack.
